Lab Manager

The Lab Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the laboratory, both clerical and technical, to ensure that testing, reporting, and overall daily functions are being performed at the highest level of quality. The position requires the monitoring of all lab staff including supervisors and clerical staff. In addition, the laboratory manager is to place orders for laboratory supplies such as reagents, consumables, stationary, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Holds a degree of Master of Arts or Master of Science with a major in chemistry, physical, or biological chemistry.
2. 4+ years of experience in a customer service position.
3. 4+ years of experience in a laboratory or hospital.
4. Proficiency in MS Office with expertise in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
5. Proficiency in Google Workspace which must include Gmail.
6. Ability to multitask.
7. Detail-oriented and comfortable working in a fast-paced office environment.
8. Make appropriate, informed decisions regarding priorities and available time.
9. Strong organizational skills: ability to set priorities and to work accurately and efficiently.
10. Ability to work cooperatively within an office environment.
11. Effective communication skills. WORKING CONDITIONS:
12. Work requires contact with specimens and requisitions, hand washing and cleaning, biohazardous body fluids, and hazardous chemicals.
13. Work is varied in nature with sufficient noise and interruptions to cause distraction and stress.
14. Work requires sitting, standing, and / or walking for periods of up to eight hours.
15. Work requires close attention to detail, accuracy, and quality.
16. OSHA risk factor: Category 1 SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides management direction and counseling. Manages clinical laboratory staff. Assigns tasks to laboratory technicians, supervisors, and clerical staff. Oversees the daily workflow of the department. Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations. Helps handle discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy. DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES – Duties may include but are not necessarily limited to the following: • Overseeing the day-to-day operations of a clinical laboratory. • Verifying test procedures were performed with precision and accuracy. • Weekly monitoring of pending results. • Daily monitoring of inventory list (updated by lab aide daily) • Troubleshooting problems with any of the analyzers. • Ensuring that patient data is accurate and secure. • Recording of bi-weekly QA meeting. • Monitoring proficiency testing. Including accessioning, submitting, and filing. • Ensure the lab establishes and maintains a calibration program for testing equipment that affect quality results. • Establish and improve procedures and processes by addressing issues and risks. • Ensure that environmental requirements are met at the federal, state, and local government levels. • Aiding the Director. • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills that foster a positive environment. • Ensuring all equipment in the laboratory setting meets safety standard. • Adheres to Safety and Quality policies and procedures. • Produce quality, error free work. • May be asked to train employees. • Adhere to all department and company policies. • Ability to change schedules to accommodate department workflow. • Maintain confidentiality. Adhere to HIPAA guidelines.
