The Role

We are hiring a Principal Scientist with a strong foundation in nanodevices and biofunctionalization to spearhead bioelectronic sensor design, fabrication, and system development. The candidate should have a strong background in immobilization chemistry, nanodevice design & architecture, and nano-sensor analog signal measurement. They should have previous experience developing, characterizing, and optimizing functional nano-FETs or related nano-sensor systems. The candidate is expected to make foundational contributions to the development of the overall technology platform through a combination of benchwork, data organization, and presentation for scientific and management teams.

Kinovi is an MIT startup developing an unprecedented tool to aid in the discovery of drugs by reducing the time and resources needed to bring small molecule drug candidates to investigational new drugs (IND) status. By combining leading-edge chemical sensing technology with exclusive methods of protein synthesis and stabilization, Kinovi will deliver to drug hunters what they have been asking for: drug-protein binding kinetics for every stage of the drug discovery process. Kinovi is a member of the inaugural class of the MIT.Nano program which provides access to state-of-the-art characterization tools, 100,000 square feet of cleanroom space, and other advanced resources.

Requirements include:
● Ph.D. in electrical/electronic engineering, chemistry, physics, chemical engineering, bioengineering, materials science, or another relevant field.
● Ability to independently lead biochip development projects, including hands-on experience designing, developing, and overseeing biochip assays to optimize sensitivity, reproducibility, and robustness according to the target product profile.
● First-hand experience with conventional and novel functionalization chemistry.
● First-hand experience characterizing functionalized surfaces with techniques such as SEM-EDS, Cryo-EM, XRD, and other conventional and emerging approaches.
● First-hand experience designing flow chambers, including with microfluidics.
● Ability to set up a data acquisition system from scratch.
● Ability to provide input into product design, including identifying technology readiness levels and contributing to the long-term product profile roadmap.
● Ability to design experiments that answer specific questions and communicate results and interpretation to the rest of the scientific team.
● Ability to proactively identify, evaluate, and manage external vendors of equipment, reagents, and complementary services.
● Ability to lead and manage direct reports who will work with you in a laboratory setting.

An ideal candidate will also have:
● Post-doctoral research experience.
● Experience performing sensing experiments with small molecule, protein, or antibody analytes.
● Experience in sensor data post-processing and analytics.
● Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational, teamwork, presentation and writing skills, including extensive experience authoring technical reports. planning skills to accomplish multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a timely manner.
● Strong aptitude to think strategically, with excellent analytical, communication, presentation and writing skills, including extensive experience authoring technical reports.
● Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external partners, including chemist, biochemist, electrical engineers, pharmacologists, structural biologists, etc.
● Ability to utilize project management resources to ensure that timelines and deliverables are met.
● You are a named inventor on one or more patent applications.

Relocation Assistance: Negotiable

Benefits:
● Health insurance
● Paid time off
● Parental leave
● SIMPLE IRA

Work Location:
● Hybrid. Home office located in the Greater Boston area. Lab responsibilities to be conducted at Kinovi’s lab (Hyde Park, MA) and MIT.nano (Cambridge, MA).
