The Junior Mechanical-Electrical Engineer position at Senseware encompasses a variety of roles, each with unique and satisfying challenges.
The position has a need for assembling custom solutions for specific applications per customer request, oftentimes involving the integration of third-party sensors and equipment with the Senseware hardware and mounted in an enclosure. He/she is responsible for:
- Assist in creating prototypes of the solution and plans/instructions for manufacturing
- Build & assemble precision mechanical assemblies and sub-assemblies using written instructions, images, and wiring diagrams
- Support the customer in deploying the solution from a device standpoint but also in learning how use the Senseware Platform
- Occasional customer site visit to support on site
In interfacing with clients as needed, the applicant will need to communicate ideas and constraints clearly and effectively in a supportive manner.
As part of the solutions assembly, the position will allow for working with new technologies and sensors and requires rapid development when these needs arise. Experimentation, testing, and design validation can be expected; an ideal candidate will be able to successfully balance business needs and accelerated timelines without sacrificing quality.
Ability to machine prototypes in-house is necessary, as well as working with small hand-held tools such as a screwdriver and caliper, connect cables, tubes, and wiring, according to specifications.
About You:
- B.S. Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or related field
- 0 - 2 years of experience
- Experience with building mechanical and electrical equipment and systems, HVAC system control applications, control system hardware and software products is a plus
- Experience with design software (Autodesk Inventor, Fusion 360, Solidworks, etc.) is a plus
- Knowledge of standard building automation system communication network protocols such as BACnet, Modbus and LON is a plus
- Proficiency with precision hand tools such as screwdriver and power tools such as drill press is required Strong & open communication skills
- Ability to work well in a team & independently
- Desire to be challenged and persevere, and be a problem-solver
- Grit & excellent attention to detail
- Can combine technical knowledge of the products or services with strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Able to listen to the customer's desires and concerns, and then recommend solutions, possibly including customizing a product
- Desire to work in a startup environment, with proactive mindset and minimum need for supervision
- Must be authorized to work in the United States
- Not a remote position, located or able to relocate to Vienna, VA/DC area.
