Head of Engineering: Sift Food Labels

ABOUT SIFT FOOD LABELS:
Sift Food Labels empowers ingredient conscious shoppers to make better decisions when grocery shopping.

Food labels are complicated and often designed to trick us. There are nearly 100 different words used for sugar on our food labels, over 9,000 chemicals are used in our food production, and it’s estimated that 80% of the items in the average American pantry contain ingredients that are banned in other countries. Given the rise of food sensitivities and disease linked to chronic inflammation, this creates an obvious tension for consumers.

Sift Food Labels solves this problem by giving ingredient-conscious shoppers the transparency that they deserve and crave, so they can be more empowered in the grocery aisles.

Today we have two products in market – a Mobile Application supporting in-store grocery shopping and a Web Browser Extension integrating into online grocery shopping with Amazon, AmazonFresh, and Whole Foods. Our future is not an exclusive app play business and we’re raising our first round of investment to scale our technology and extend it into new use cases.

ABOUT THE ROLE:
We are looking for an experienced Head of Technology to lead all aspects of technology including building the long-term vision, designing and implementing our technology roadmap, building, mentoring, and developing the team, and ensuring that the technological resources are aligned with the company’s business needs. This role will be the first full-time hire (we have a great team of contractors today) and reports into the Founder and CEO.

The hiring of this role is dependent on the closing of funding (3-6 months out). Until then, we are looking to start with a paid advisor relationship with flexibility in what this looks like before coming on full-time.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• 7+ years of leadership experience.
• Extensive experience as a software engineer.
• Familiar with the Microsoft tech stack: Xamarin, ASP .Net, Azure
• Track record of recruiting, mentoring, and scaling engineering talent and building a strong team culture.
• Background & experience in startups, ideally related to marketplaces, healthcare, or consumer health & wellness.
• BS in Computer Science or related degree.

BONUS POINTS:
• Experience in machine learning and data science.
