Emily WilcockThe Role
CoMind is a Neurotechnology start-up focused on delivering non-invasive brain-computer interfaces. We have assembled a world-class team of experts across Neuroscience, Physics and Engineering with the collective mission of building tools to understand and solve the human brain. CoMind’s state of the art proprietary technology will enable scientists and engineers the ability to interface with the brain in ways currently not possible. We believe that this will be the catalyst for a new wave of neuroscience research and enable applied neurotechnology applications to be deployed at scale. CoMind is backed by leading investors such as Octopus Ventures, LocalGlobe, Crane Venture Partners, RT Ventures and BackedVC, alongside several high profile angel investors.
We are looking for Optical Research Scientists to join our unique and experimental environment, developing your own creative solutions whilst acquiring new skills.
Our Scientists and Engineers are clear communicators, able to collaborate effectively with a diverse, multidisciplinary team whilst thinking fast and solving sudden problems that arise in our day-to-day work. You should feel comfortable when faced with new challenges and enjoy solving difficult problems.
We are looking for Optical Research Scientists who have a deep understanding in diffuse optics and/or optical coherence tomography. Bonus points if you have previous experience with in vivo measurements.
You should be able to effectively communicate your needs, concepts, and ideas to the rest of the team to enable them to transform these into designs and systems. You should have an entrepreneurial mindset and a very strong work ethic. You are a fast learner and adaptable to different problems even if you don’t have as much experience in that area.
Preferable skills:
- Experience in medical imaging
- Experience with Python / MATLAB
- In vivo experience, ideally on humans
- Background in optics
- Strong experimental experience
- Interdisciplinary mindset (e.g. optics, physics, biology, clinics, basic programming)
- Ability to perform complex engineering analyses, resulting in thorough and complete documentation
- Ability to work efficiently in a highly collaborative, fast-paced environment
- Ability to work and explain concepts to people who don’t have an optics background
- Wearing multiple hats, our Optical Research Scientists work across the business focusing on:
Testing new hardware designs and trying to optimise them towards more compact devices for clinical applications. You’ll be developing new systems to improve the signal-to-noise ratio.
Followed by taking in-vivo data, where the measurements may be in a clinical setting with patients, e.g. rehabilitation room, ICU, etc., or simply onsite at the office with healthy volunteers. Our Scientists and Engineers should be comfortable with interacting and touching patients when necessary.
In the end, you should be able to process simple data sets with a fast-turn around. We won’t ask you to process full long in-vivo measurements, but you must be able to get the basic signal extraction`, and get conclusions which will lead to go/nogo decisions.
What We Offer:
- Competitive salary plus stock options.
- Pension.
- Breakfast and snacks provided.
- An opportunity to change how humans interact with computers and the potential to save lives.
- The chance to help grow a company and its culture from the ground up.
- A promising career growth opportunity. We would much rather promote people who have exceeded expectations in their current role rather than hire new people.
