Patent Engineer / Product Support

Corporations spend approximately $9 billion annually on external services for patent applications in the U.S. Rowan’s state-of-the-art technology platform—Rowan Patents— incorporates AI, machine learning, analytics, and natural language processing to deliver end-to-end solutions to patent teams, enabling them to focus on high-value functions that result in high-quality patents in less time. We’re aiming to transform the patent industry in the same way that CAD transformed architecture and construction, and it’s an exciting time for us -- in 2021 our technology platform gained some significant traction in the market, and we’re planning to build on and expand that in a big way in 2022.

Our team:
We are a tight-knit group working primarily out of the Seattle area. We love exploring new technologies and building our performance and chemistry as a team, all in the service of delivering value to our customers. We prioritize practicality over process -- as a small team we have kept our process overhead to a minimum by learning how to most effectively communicate and coordinate with each teammate by getting to know them and their communication style well, and we’re eager to meet you and learn about yours. We work hard and move fast, but also prioritize work/life balance with our flexibility around vacation and working remotely (including before and, eventually, after the pandemic). We’re still primarily working from home, but we have a wonderful dog-friendly office in Pioneer Square where team members will spend the occasional work day, and, when the time is right, we’re eager to figure out the right balance between working remotely and gathering there as a team.

The role:
Our Rowan Patents platform helps patent practitioners make better use of their time and improve their work. You’ll help our clients get the most from our platform, and provide feedback to improve our product. We’re looking for someone with experience/expertise in the patenting process, who can assist attorneys in drafting and prosecuting patent applications; and someone adept with and enthusiastic about technology and software tools, who can become a resident expert on using our platform in real practice.

You’ll share that expertise with our clients – helping clients transition to the platform by converting and generating patent application content in the Rowan Patents platform; providing advice and best ways to use the platform; contributing to training and support materials; and responding to client questions and help requests.

Apply if you have...

• Experience drafting patent applications and/or related documents
• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
• A passion for technology and a strong interest and/or background in software, artificial intelligence, and/or electrical engineering
• A desire to work closely with clients to help them become more effective in using our solutions
• A Bachelor’s degree, and preferably a degree in computer science, electrical engineering, chemistry, biology, or other technical fields
