The Role
THE ABOVE DATA OPPORTUNITY
Above Data enables normal users to instantly access insights about the real world, generated from large samples of user behavior data we collect and curate.
New consumer transaction datasets are rapidly emerging, but the data is not market ready. Our platform makes raw data usable, giving our clients a competitive edge. Existing information systems lack the scale, granularity and speed of our solution.
Our platform expands the overall market opportunity. We make analysis previously reserved for the most sophisticated hedge funds now available to any business unit, even those that lack engineering and data science resourcing.
In short, we accelerate business decisioning by removing the black box and rigidity of existing data solutions, offering flexible consumption models and tooling geared towards business users.
RESPONSIBILITIES
You will lead the design and development of our platform at Above Data. You will be comfortable working autonomously, researching and seeking solutions with minimal supervision. An ideal candidate will be able to mentor additional employees and roll-up their sleeves in implementing platform and data solutions for our clients.
REQUIRED BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE
Ideal candidate will have data science/engineering experience within investment management companies (e.g. hedge funds, investment banking), data analytics (e.g. 1010Data, Yipit, Earnest Research, ThinkNum, Eagle Alpha, Quandl, Second Measure), or data companies (e.g. Acxiom, Epsilon, Oracle Data Cloud, Nielsen, IRI).
The right candidate should be a doer and excited by building foundational processes and product structure; self-motivated and focused on day-to-day execution to quickly build value.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- 5 - 10 years of experience (senior) and 1-4 years of experience (junior) working with production big data systems in one or more roles
- Expert SQL programming skills
- Knowledge of modern cloud infrastructure (Kubernetes and supporting tooling)
- Proficiency in at least one programming language (Python, Java, Scala, Javascript)
- Experience working with source control systems like git
- Financial Services experience or experience dealing with large transaction datasets is a plus.
Above Data is based in San Francisco, but remote work is acceptable.
