This is not a typical bioinformatics position. You will be working on cutting edge omics studies to advance skin diagnostics and discovery of novel anti-aging treatments. Your work will translate into an impactful product in the hands of consumer. In this customer focused and technically savvy role, you will develop bioinformatics pipelines for Next Generation Sequencing with a focus on DNA methylation and deliver data driven reports to the customer. You will work in a multi-disciplinary team and will have the opportunity to be involved in strategy and building your own team to develop bespoke methodologies and algorithms and use ML for diagnostics tool development.

Responsibilies
• Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and progress towards leading your data science team;
• Design and deliver in-depth, and start-of-the-art client reporting on of high throughput data generated from various NGS and array data from various domains (specifically epigenomics, but also including genomics, transcriptomics, etc.);
• Build and optimize ML models for biological age determination and disease stratification based on epigenetic data;
• Maintain AWS infrastructure including data storage, analysis pipelines, compute nodes and AWS specific user/role/resource permissions;
• Develop and expand the existing computational infrastructure including but not limited to: expansion of the AWS compute framework with a heavy bias on increasing automation and throughput, designing and developing new bioinformatic analysis pipelines and using cutting edge downstream analysis techniques to produce actionable results;
• Surveying the literature and attend conferences to incorporate discoveries and findings from the genetics/-omics’ community into study opportunities, internal understanding and new commercial service areas;
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously and complete analyses in a timely & reliable manner;
• Present experimental plans and results to internal and external stakeholders;
• Be involved in hiring and team growth.

Skills & Experience

  • MSs or PhD in Bioinformatics, Biochemistry, Computer Science or related subject;
  • 2+ years’ experience delivering bioinformatics and NGS data analysis solutions to the industry;
  • Experience in analysis of epigenetics data such as DNA methylation and variant analysis (GWAS) is also advantageous;
  • Experience in the general tools and programs used in modern Illumina NGS data analysis is essential;
  • A strong skillset in AWS maintenance and deployment including infrastructure as code automated deployment from github is essential. Knowledge of multi-account separation of responsibilities and other secure compliance strategies is also desirable;
  • Strong experience in all aspects of bioinformatic pipeline design and implementation is essential. Our pipelines are written in DSL2 Nextflow, therefore knowledge of this is also strongly desired;
  • Strong experience in modern software development and deployment techniques such as continuous integration, github actions, unit testing and automated deployment to AWS is highly desirable;
