Staff Engineer Back End

Please Note: This role is remote and will require extensive travel to our home base in San Mateo, CA. Travel schedule could be weekly or monthly. Please keep this in mind as you consider this opportunity

The impact you will have:

• You will be responsible for building and maintaining modern data pipelines that make data available and accessible to the entire company. The team works closely with Data scientists, Product Managers, Business analysts and other key parts of the business to understand their data requirements and build appropriate solutions and platforms.
• You will be responsible for building and maintaining scalable and fault tolerant microservices to enable a real time streaming platform. You would understand the right patterns of breaking up a problem domain into communicating microservices architecture.
• As a Staff Engineer you will lead by example, build a culture of technical excellence within the team. You will act as a tech lead for a small team of Software Engineers and take ownership over the quality of deliverables and future roadmap
• You will be expected to gain expert understanding of our complex domain model. You will be encouraged to come up with strategies to simplify our models, identify and fix data redundancies and inconsistencies.

What you bring to the table:

• 7+ years of server side Software Engineering
• 5+ years of experience building ETL pipelines
• 5+ years of experience with databases - both SQL and noSQL
• 3+ years acting as a Tech lead for a team of 3+ engineers
• Experience with technologies like Cassandra, Kafka, Hbase, Hive, Parquet, Impala, Presto, Redshift, Bigquery is nice to have
• Experience in converting business requirements into technical designs
