Head of Engineering

Overview: 1 in 3 Americans has some type of criminal record. Even old and minor records can hold people back and prevent them from achieving their full potential. While most states have a legal process that allows someone to clear a criminal record, those systems are too costly and complicated for many. Our aim is to enable those that should have their record cleared get it cleared.

Rasa is a new, mission-focused legal tech company with a goal of enabling the clearing criminal records simple and affordable for everyone. In order to achieve this important goal, we are building two products: (1) a modern, cloud-based web application to help anyone determine their legal eligibility for expungement; and (2) a case management and document automation toolset to streamline the legal expungement process and manage all client matters and communications.

We are looking for a skilled, experienced, passionate, and goal-oriented software engineer to be our Head of Engineering.

Clear as many eligible records as possible to enable people to move forward with their lives
Show how innovative legal reform can be used to help solve the access to justice crisis in America

Key Responsibilities:

Work with CEO to develop the short and long-term technical strategy needed to achieve our mission and goals;
Hire and manage a team of software engineers to develop our software;
Design and build the development of our case management workflow tooling, legal document production (largely find and replace from templates), and marketing and evaluation front-end;
Provide basic help-desk type support to the team

Ideal Experience:

Full-stack engineer with minimum of 3-5 years of development experience;
Experience with best industry standard practices;
Experience with start-ups, requirement discovery, managing changing direction;
Preferred but not required: some knowledge or familiarity with working in legal settings, including rules and regulations governing client confidentiality, data sensitivity, and cyber security

Knowledge and Skills:

Must be well-organized and have strong project management skills;
Must have strong written and oral communication skills;
Ability to explain technical concepts to a non-technical audience;
Great problem-solving abilities;
Ability to manage both long-term planning and short-term tactical work
