The Role

About us:

In the words of Inc. Magazine, “Web Summit is the largest technology conference in the world”. Forbes says Web Summit is “the best tech conference on the planet”, Bloomberg calls it “Davos for geeks”, Politico “the Olympics of tech”, and the Guardian “Glastonbury for geeks”.

Whatever Web Summit is, it wouldn’t be possible without an incredible team of more than 240 employees, including world-class engineers, data scientists, designers, producers, marketers, salespeople and more.

We’ve disrupted an old industry by building incredible software and designing mind-blowing events. We’ve revolutionised how people come together in our world. We started with one event: Web Summit. But now we’re creating category-defining events all over the world, from Asia to North America.

We’re just getting started.

About the team:

We’re looking for a Senior Go Engineer to join our growing Product Engineering team at Web Summit - building out our services architecture and delivering key attendee and business tools and systems.

You will work primarily on our Events Platform used by large scale 3rd party operators of the worlds biggest conferences.

What you’ll achieve at Web Summit:

  • You’ll join a growing team, and work in a collaborative environment on existing and new products.
  • You’ll work across the stack (Ruby, React, PostgreSQL, Redis, Linux) to deliver quality, maintainable code that powers the best conferences in the world.
  • You’ll collaborate and learn with other team members via mentoring, code reviews, and technical talks.
  • You’ll learn about and champion best practices in code, architecture and development processes.
  • You'll work on Data ingestion of attendees and companies.
  • You'll Setup and configure the mobile and web applications, including Configuration of all features/modules per requirements.

Who you are:

  • You have an analytical mind and love solving problems.
  • You care deeply about engineering culture and the quality of products you and your team build.
  • You have experience working in a Kanban or Scrum team driving everyone around you to perform to their utmost.
  • You love the web and new technologies, constantly learning and improving.
  • You have knowledge of a broad spectrum of products and recent developments, allowing you to make smart choices about technologies that should be adopted.

Skills and abilities we’re looking for:

  • Ability to understand large, complex distributed systems with many moving, interrelated parts.
  • 5+ years of commercial experience in an OOP language. We use a services architecture, with existing RESTful Apis in Ruby, but open to Go, JVM, Kotlin, Python to name a few.
  • Linux and Postgres experience ideal.
  • Strong SDLC principles, TDD and CI/CD understanding.
  • Good understanding of AWS.
  • DevOps experience is a big plus.
  • Comfortable working in Scrum/Kanban environment, with Git Pull/code reviews.

At Web Summit, we embrace diversity and inclusion. We want talent from all walks of life to help us on our journey to digitise the conference sector. Hiring decisions are made purely on experience, skills and the needs of the business.
