Backend engineer - Machine learning

Job description

We are looking for a backend developer with an interest in machine learning to join our AI research team at ELSA and help us bring awesome speech recognition and AI products into production.
You will be working with some of Europe’s brightest scientists on state-of-the-art AI and speech recognition technology for language assessment.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Prototype research ideas to test and showcase new research internally
• Work with the team to deploy AI/ML technology as API services to be used in the ELSA products.
• Help the team to run research experiments and ensure our computing cluster is in good health
• Maintain and optimize existing production code that implements the team’s research.
• Work closely with ELSA’s Engineering and platform Teams on research productization.

Your background:

• Bachelor degree in Computer Science, with interest in ML
• Strong programming expertise in one or more of Python3, Go, Ruby, Java, C++
• 4+ years of proven industry experience
• Good capacity to understand and implement algorithms
• Hacker attitude, able to quickly test the feasibility of research ideas
• Strong experience with Linux software development
• Strong experience with containerization with Docker
• An eye for performance implications of code

Nice to have skills:

• Experience with speech technology
• Knowledge of how to deploy and work with cloud services (AWS, GCP) and Kubernetes infrastructure
• Some mobile (iOS/Android/Dart) and web development skills for prototyping
• Experience with Linux administration (Ubuntu)
• Some work experience working with customer-facing technology
