Senior Backend Software Engineer

Storyhunter is looking for a talented developer to join our engineering team, based in Austin, Texas. You will work on a small, highly experienced engineering team building a product that is used worldwide by many of the biggest and smallest names in news, journalism, and visual marketing industries, as well as thousands of the top visual content freelancers. We are serious about quality web engineering, but we are also a relaxed work environment with tons of flexibility. We take an outcomes-based view of success, and we're very open to the manner in which we get there.

We are looking for an experienced Backend Software Engineer specializing in APIs, Payments and Data Analytics to architect and manage our backend systems. You will work with our other engineers, PMs, and department heads to build features, integrate with payment providers, and build data ETL processes to provide insight into our product.

You should have experience building backend web API services, and enjoy working in a fast paced environment. We expect everyone to be hardworking and dedicated--along with that comes the opportunity for every person to have a significant impact on our success.

We are currently working from home, but we were in an office in Austin pre-covid, and we intend to return to a flexible 1-2 days per week in person in the near future.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Participate in product development process (planning, documentation, review)
Code new features and make architectural improvements on both our back end Laravel framework and supporting services in Node.js.
Communicate with stakeholders to transform and explore our data into reports that inform different team goals]
Ship quality code, backed by QA and production monitoring
Accurately estimate your time, and revise estimates promptly when things change
Communicate closely with the team, stakeholders, and customers
Requirements

3-7 years full stack web development experience (PHP preferred)
Computer Science degree (preferred)
Experience with data and B.I. business intelligence (preferred)
Strong knowledge of software development methodologies, tools, and processes
Great communication skills
Excellent at problem-solving and root analysis
Strong knowledge of SQL, ETL and data theory
Comfortable working in a Linux network environment
Experience working with a team in an Agile/Scrum development process
