Bonsai’s mission is to help people find and buy the products they want, as soon as they realize they want them. We began in 2016 as a streetwear style and news app. Now we’re leading the market shift to content-driven commerce. We are helping publishers launch e-commerce as a new line of business. We already do this for over 200M+ monthly unique visitors on some of North America’s leading publishers, including BuzzFeed, Vox, R29, PopSugar, PureWow, Discovery, and Complex. We’ve been featured in the Wall Street Journal and Business Insider for leading the charge in a new wave of native commerce, but the opportunity is still largely untapped.

Our technology allows users to transact natively while browsing content. We make the journey from seeing a product to buying it possible in two taps. Our vision is to make this possible everywhere you discover products. For publishers, we provide a powerful revenue alternative to ads that also improves the user experience. For merchants, Bonsai allows them to capture customers while they browse content, right when purchasing intent is being formed.

We are looking for a VP, Finance to become an integral part of the Leadership team at Bonsai. Reporting directly to the CEO, you’ll own the Finance and Legal functions. You’ll go far beyond managing operations for these teams to clear a path for growth, drive measurable value, and establish core processes and reporting requirements.

What will I be doing?

  • Lead and manage our talented and driven Finance and Legal teams
  • Provide financial leadership and strategic direction in developing and enhancing business, and operational strategies within our company
  • Act as a trusted advisor and key resource in assessing critical gaps and advising our executive team
  • Lead the creation of financial modelling and forecasting, organizational budgets, and reporting for our leadership team, board of directors, and investors
  • Build and implement an effective organizational design to support our rapid growth
  • Work with external advisors (lawyers, accountants, consultants)

What do I need?

  • 7+ years of experience in a senior-level Finance or Accounting role, with strategic planning and execution
  • Exceptional experience building and transforming a high-performing work environment through sound business practices
  • A strong background in a high-growth, entrepreneurial environments such as corporate finance, venture-backed startups, or M&A
  • Demonstrated leadership and team-building skills with a track record of recruiting, developing and managing top talent to work cooperatively and effectively together
  • Experience leading a rapidly scaling startup or technology organization through growth phases of the company lifecycle (Series B, growth, and beyond)
  • High emotional intelligence - you have effective verbal and written communication, impeccable attention to detail, the ability to prioritize multiple projects, and a deep sense of empathy to guide you
  • Entrepreneurial and adaptable - you are comfortable working in a fast-paced, roll-up the sleeves, growth-oriented culture
  • CPA

Nice to have:

  • Experience with US and Canadian compliance in compensation, tax litigation, hiring, and benefits to support our distributed team
  • A keen interest in the eCommerce industry
  • MBA is a plus
