Lead/Director of Software Engineering (Hands-on position; Equity negotiable)

Witley, Inc. is looking for a talented developer to lead mobile engineering efforts for our app, Witley, a recently launched college communication platform (iOS and Android) in the United States. As a hands-on engineering manager, you will be responsible for building, maintaining and testing mostly our iOS application, along with supporting our Android application, with the help of a small team.

The ideal candidate is a practiced engineer with the ability and desire to provide leadership and imagine superior architectures. The candidate should understand the business that their code supports and work to identify risks (in code, features, and design) and communicate these to the appropriate parties. They must be self-directed and comfortable managing the needs of a variety of stakeholders, team members and contractors.

*We are looking for someone either currently located in Southern California (Los Angeles area, preferable) or someone who is remote elsewhere in the US but willing to move to the Los Angeles area in the near-ish future once it is safe to return to the workplace. *

Responsibilities

• Own the development, testing, and maintenance of our native iOS application.
• Lead the design and development of innovative solutions to both technical and business problems across iOS and Android.
• You have the desire to learn new things, try new technology, and seek opportunities to grow and mentor.
• Provide thought leadership in mobile engineering and bring your passion for technology to motivate and inspire on a day to day basis.
• Provide detailed estimates of work and ensure timely delivery of features.
• Produce and ensure delivery of quality, readable, and well-tested code (code reviews, automated tests).
• Rely on judgment and experience to plan and accomplish goals in a timely manner.

Experience and Qualifications

• 5+ years of mobile software development with an emphasis on iOS.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
• Deep understanding and proficiency in building mobile apps from scratch using Swift/Objective-C. Some experience with/working knowledge of Java/Kotlin and Python (Django) is preferred.
• Prior experience integrating 3rd party API's and interfaces.
• Adept in database design, query optimizations, and performance tuning.
• Desire and ability to expand expertise into additional mobile languages.
• Expertise in designing testable software (Unit/Functional/End-to-End) and building large scale, complex applications.
• Self-motivated/learning mindset with strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Passionate about writing clean, well organized, and production-ready code.
• A portfolio of Apps or SDKs already built and in the App Store or Google Play is ideal.
• Desire to build a larger in-house team and manage a group of developers over time.
• User-centric focused and embrace Agile practice.
• Strong management experience preferred.
