The Role

COMPANY BACKGROUND

Online gambling is a £15 Billion a year industry in the UK alone. However the public and political pressure for further regulation is only increasing.

beBettor is an independent technology and data science company focused exclusively on the responsible gaming sector backed by industry veterans and technology entrepreneurs. We provide responsible gaming tools to help the betting and gaming industry combat problem gambling and meet evolving standards for regulatory compliance. Our flagship product is a customer Affordability Check.

We are looking for an experienced product manager to help us define the future of the beBettor offering.

REMUNERATION

Competitive salary. Potential for equity.

DESCRIPTION

As Senior Product Manager, you will own the product function at beBettor.

You will be working in a fast paced, innovative, and collaborative environment where every team member has a voice. As such, you’ll need to balance these multiple voices, as well as ensure that the voice of the end client is heard as a top priority.

We are looking for an organised individual who can collate information, make decisions and inspire confidence, while being a personable and persuasive team player who can focus on development.

You will work between the commercial and technical teams, reporting directly into the COO, to ensure beBettor continues to innovate, develop and deploy market leading products.

As the company’s first “Product” hire, you will have the potential to make a HUGE impact on society (providing our gambling clients with state of the art consumer protection technology) and the ultimate direction and success of the company.

You will also have a tremendous amount of autonomy to develop and evolve your own agile management style for the betterment of the company, as well as co-defining this key role with the founding team.

RESPONSIBILITIES
We have broken your responsibilities into the following 4 categories:

  1. Project management
  2. Client support & documentation
  3. Internal communication
  4. Product direction

*1. PROJECT MANAGEMENT *

Key to this role is recognising what client work needs to be done when and aligning / re-aligning members of the development and commercial teams to deliver prioritised work in a timely manner e.g. translating an urgent feature requests from an important client into development tasks and refactoring the current development sprint to prioritise the delivery of these important client requests. Equally, it will be important for you to recognise client requests that are less urgent and that can wait to be incorporated into the next development sprint. Essentially you will be responsible for ensuring that the development team is always focusing on the most important development tasks.

You will be expected to unlock development bottlenecks and support the delivery of development sprints in any way you can. This could involve anything from sourcing / qualifying new data sets or pulling in commercial members of the team to pay for data / execute sales contracts that are blocking development etc.

We have developed our own style of agile development and we want you to help us take it to the next level! It’s not about administration and jira micromanagement (in any case we use Trello), it’s about a get things done attitude, knowledge of what fires are burning, whose work is needed to address them and when.

2. CLIENT SUPPORT & DOCUMENTATION

Once fully on-boarded, you will have an excellent understanding of the beBettor product, enabling you to provide fantastic client service and support, whilst also benefiting from learning of client pain points

You will:

  • lead client integration calls;
  • be the first responder to client technical queries;
  • collate client bugs based on your perceived severity, pulling in + stakeholders as required and manage them through to resolution;
  • be responsible for managing and communicating to clients all manner of updates including but not limited to major technology updates, product / feature release dates, scheduled maintenance, down-time, etc and;
  • be responsible for the creation and management of product documentation for internal stakeholder and client use.

*3. INTERNAL COMMUNICATION *

You will be in daily contact with the development team and regular contact with the COO.

Once a week you will chair a Company Product meeting, reporting to the larger team progress against the roadmap and cross functional priorities for the weeks ahead.

The company currently operates a remote office culture and utilises an array of internal communication tools including Slack, Trello and Google Meet to ensure constant communication between team members. We also meet once a month at the CEO’s home office for monthly planning / strategy sessions.

4. PRODUCT DIRECTION

Currently we use a weighted voting system to prioritise development tasks in the backlog, which effectively harnesses the collective wisdom of the founding team. Initially, it will be your job to collate internal ideas / client requests, document them, oversee this voting process and ensure that prioritised development tasks are included in weekly development sprints.

However, given you will be responsible for synthesising client requests and feedback, in time you will be responsible for sense checking that founding team product development priorities match with those of our clients.

In the future, we also see you pitching us ideas as to where we can take the product! At this point you will be identifying, analysing, designing and planning the end to end delivery of key development initiatives and new features alongside the COO and CTO, managing these through implementation, testing and deployment.

Ultimately you will own beBettor’s product backlog and roadmap and will be responsible for balancing the needs of our clients, the business and internal stakeholders.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5 plus years professional experience.
  • Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Experience leading projects from inception to delivery, preferably in an enterprise technology product management role.
  • Evidence of embedding agile development methodologies (techniques and tools).
  • Experience and knowledge of APIs, Web Services, AWS concepts and tools.
  • Former technical experience preferred
  • Experience of data integrations, products and vendors preferred.
  • Experience in a regulatory setting is preferred (e.g. UKGC, GDPR, FCA).
  • Knowledge of the gambling industry is preferred.
  • A sense of humour ;)
