C JThe Role
We're looking for someone intimately familiar with how small biz eCommerce works & the steps necessary to successfully process & ship orders at scale. Shipments from the single retail item by 1st Class up to multi case B2B shipments to retail stores (mostly UPS). Receiving shipments by the pallet and cross docking them same day to waiting customers.
Direct experience working with ShipStation (or something better) is a plus. Managing incoming shipments and ensuring receipt and accuracy also key. Experience fulfilling orders for marketplaces (FBA, FBM, SFP) also helpful though super low priority.
Managing Inventory also key. We currently use DEAR Systems but it's same idea as most of the online systems like Netsuite, Tradegecko (rip), Cin7, Brightpearl, etc. While not overly complex to pick up with previous experience, this needs a person who understands the importance of doing it right as it is updating stock numbers across sales channels. BOM's and "additional units of measures" are key as we service b2b and b2c. We are also expanding in house manufacturing and assembly from components produced domestically and abroad that runs through the same system.
While that might all be just another normal day, recent events have necessitated we step up our game and do a little more. Everything is a bit more fast paced as we face new challenges, all while dealing with much higher costs. We have a ping pong tabel but we've all been too busy to use it for years.
In the end you must be trustworthy, detail oriented, and able to eventually manage the shipping / receiving operation independently. On-time performance, follow through, and a positive attitude are highly valued as this is a key part of the operation. In addition, you can offer input on everything from warehouse improvements to products to video production. We're small so you should be the kind of person who likes to "wear many hats", while also knowing when to delegate and manage each initiative to a successful conclusion.
In all honesty, this position may be overwhelming for someone who has only worked as a cog in a big corporate ecommerce machine or a big box warehouse. If you've worked at a smaller business though this is just another day with chances to move quickly and seize opportunities without all the bureaucracy. We're a step above your normal small biz though when it comes to tech stack so it's great opportunity to learn and/or develop your own entrepreneurial stack even if that's not on the radar.
