SENIOR ANDROID DEVELOPER / TECHNOLOGIST

OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE
In 2019, reach52 was been awarded funding from a major bank to grow into India. We would like to hire a highly motivated Senior Android or Kotlin Developer/Technologist to take on the role designing and delivering enterprise solutions, applications and integrations in India.

India is a new market for us and we are rapidly expanding our userbase and need to continue to build our portfolio of integrated applications that work in a challenging, off-line environment. We currently use document databases to replicate data between a master and the off-line applications. We have extended workflows that mean our processes flow through Java/Kotlin applications on android and through web technologies depending on the access channel. We support interactions with communities, commercial, logistics and police offices. We need extend our support for internationalisation and localisation and to integrate external services such as local payment options to our commercial applications, together with access to data from third parties.

The role will taking a leading role in the continuing development of a cross application technology solution with emphasis on cost and productivity and existing investment. The candidate should be able to work well closely with the dev team based in Manila, Philippines. Over time, the dev team in India will also be expanded and the successful candidate would naturally play a formative part in shaping the new team. The candidate should be able to guide the team in development and delivery of solutions, therefore experience in technical delivery, problem solving and ability to learn is paramount, the specific technology can be learned or taught if necessary.

ROLE SCOPE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The core role scope and responsibilities of the Senior Developer / Technologist will be:
• Propose, manage and implement technical solutions within projects;
• Understand and analyze user requirements and defects;
• Lead and assure new designs and changes to existing or new system components;
• Develop application code;
• Unit and integration testing of code;
• Build and deployment of code;
• Implement security testing, monitoring and reporting;
• Provide technical guidance.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
The ideal candidate will have:
• 6+ years’ experience in Android engineering with several in lead roles;
• Ability to communicate well with developers and non-technical persons in the organisation;
• Appreciation of the need for design and assurance in a fast-moving organisation;
• Experience of containerisation and the need for this in modern environments;
• Experience of the need for security and data privacy;
• Knowledge in a selection of the following and prepared to learn others as required:
o Cloud platforms
o Proficient with Java / Kotlin / Python / Elixir
o NoSQL databases and replication
o Commercially secure communications
o Website / API security
o Application integration
o Design of off-line services
o Containerisation (docker)
o Release Management and Deployment (Kubernetes)
• Knowledge of healthcare systems and/or technology an advantage;
• Good written and oral communication in English, other regional dialects/languages is an advantage;
• Strong team working skills and flexibility to work as part of a small-but-growing start-up team.
