Senior Software Engineer + Architect

Brightest (www.brightest.io) is a Certified B Corp and mission-driven, sustainability technology company that helps businesses, universities, governments, NGOs, and other impact organizations measure their environmental impact and performance while ensuring compliance with the latest internal ESG (environmental social governance) regulations.

We're proud of the progress we've made on Brightest so far (product in-market with large-scale reach and use, growing customer and partner ecosystem), and that's why we're looking for a Senior Software Architect to join the core team, help take Brightest to the next level, and elevate our platform and product performance.

The right candidate will (a) care about sustainability and positive social impact (and technology solutions that scale good), (b) have a strong grasp of modern software development, application architecture, and cloud infrastructure, and (c) be able to work effectively in small teams or as a relatively independent, roll-of-your-sleeves self-starter. We're a small, product-driven team and everyone needs to be an entrepreneurial owner of their work.

We are looking for the right candidate with expertise in the following areas:

• Django/Python (our backend)
• React.js (frontend)
• Django REST, API, micro-service, and/or integration development
• Kubernetes (K8S EKS)
• AWS
• Analytics and data measurement software products
• Machine learning and AI (including LLMs, preference models, NLP, and data pipelines)
• DevOps and application performance (caching, query efficiency, cloud infrastructure, etc.)
• Application performance optimization, scalability, and architecture design

Generally we're looking for someone awesome with the following attributes:

• Degree in computer science or related technical field involving coding (e.g., physics, statistics, data science), or equivalent technical work experience
• 5+ years of high-level professional software development, with previous experience as a technical co-founder or scale-up startup engineer at a high-growth company
• Independent, self-starter who wants a opportunity to shape and have a meaningful impact at an early-stage startup
• A desire to take Brightest and our mission as far as it can go, and be an important part of shaping our company's future and the impact we can have for our clients, stakeholders, and the planet at large
