Product Designer

What are we up to? ✍🏾

Outwrite is a Sydney-based startup, with a mission to help ordinary people become extraordinary writers. We use artificial intelligence to assist customers in all aspects of their writing. Over a million people have used our products, with more than 100 million writing suggestions provided. We are a lean team of eight, and we need a product designer to take the lead and shape the direction of Outwrite's design.

What will it involve? 👩🏽‍💻

As our sole product designer, you will work with our cross-functional team of developers, marketers and product owners. Outwrite has multiple platforms, including web apps, browser plugins, and word processor addons, making for unique product design challenges. You will need ingenuity and creative design thinking to design a seamless product experience across these platforms. Your primary focus will be to make the UX and UI design of our writing assistant as simple and powerful as possible for our customers, wherever they write.

You will be Outwrite's champion of design thinking, refining and shaping our design identity. You will scale our design system, define our design principles, and shape our products with other stakeholders. Be prepared to get your hands dirty in other areas of product and design too - this is a startup after all! We are constantly iterating on new products and ideas, and the designs you create will be rapidly shipped to millions of people.

What are we looking for? 👀

We are a small, ambitious, highly-collaborative team, and we are looking for someone who will thrive in this environment. You should be passionate about designing elegant, functional software, and eager to constantly design the best products for our customers. You should be proud to own Outwrite's design identity, as you will be responsible for making the design work.

You should have:

• 3+ years experience as a product designer in a cross-functional product team;
• Experience working end-to-end, from discovering problems to delivering solutions;
• A portfolio that demonstrates product design thinking, where you have previously shipped products with brilliant UX and UI;
• Expert understanding of design tools like Figma, Sketch, or similar;
• Working rights in Australia;
• Experience working in SaaS is a plus;
• Experience working in a startup is a plus.
