Senior React Native developer - sweat equtiy - 5-10 hours a week

We're after a Senior React Native developer to join our startup on a 5-10 hours a week basis with compensation of purely sweat equity, then transition into a full time role with a market salary + vested options.

About us:

Started in 2018 as an app for guinea pig owners (My Guinea Pigs), we grew organically to gain 50,000 users in 2020 and become self sufficient (cashflow positive). We are now expanding on the concept and building the same app for other exotic pets and eventually dogs & cats.

We're currently building the core team and will start seeking funding by October 2021, expected to get funded by May 2022 where we'll be able to offer a full time role

We're currently team of 4, two backend developers, an exotic veterinarian and a product manager

About the software:

Our front end, the app is built on React Native while our backend is built on Serverless using NodeJs.

We're using a microservices architecture in the backend with a RESTful API that the frontend consumes.

We're using services such as:

• AWS Cognito for app authentication
  • Firebase for connecting google auth to Cognito
• AWS S3 for storing and fetching images
• AWS Lambda & Dynamo for our backend APIs

The RN code is well documented with a README doc that contains all the details around how the code works.

About the role:

Your role would change over time from a Senior RN dev to a Tech Lead, but essentially you'd be leading the development effort in the app side and the team would be built around you.

• First 6 months: Most of your work will be hands on in bug fixing and minor improvements to the UX to improve user retention and conversion, we will not be building any new features prior to funding
• 3 months before funding: You'll be preparing technical documentation and technical tasks to fit into our roadmap. This is where any code rewrites would happen in order to eliminate any legacy code and technical debt to pave the way for the new features
• first year post funding: You'll be working full time in building new features and assisting in hiring new developers. You won't be expected to grow into management position instead you'll be moving into a technical lead role where you'd be responsible for making any technical decisions regarding the app's future

About you:

We're after someone who has extensive experience in React Native and preferably understands backend architecture. In this role you'd be expected to:

• Be the go-to person for technical decisions about new features and the technical feasibility
• From your own initiative highlight how the code can be improved in terms of cleanliness, reusability and efficiency
• Be hands-on in writing code, improving the pipelines*, adding automated testing
  • * we have the ability to hire devops freelancers for assisting with pipeline work but you'd be expected to lead that work and maintain that IP

About the sweat equity & options:

Pre-funding your time will be compensated with sweat equity only, we're using the slicing pie model for the current team that provides a fair division of equity based on the contribution and the market salary.

Post funding you will be offered a full time position with vested options in the company.

About the company's future:

• In 3 years we're aiming to have 1 mil users using our applications
• Our team is not expected to grow beyond 20 people and we want to actively keep the small company culture
• The company is expected to remain fully remote with an HQ office based in Sydney
