The Role

  • Participate in development, technical analysis and integration of storage software involving SATA/SAS/NVMe RAID HBA and Network Storage architectures
  • Develop on MIPS processors using C and assembly language to implement RAID core firmware
  • Apply SCSI and ATA Storage Standards such as SAS, ATA-8, SPC, SES, SBC to product development
  • Develop SGPIO, I2C, SPI, RS232 firmware under storage architecture
  • Work directly with customers in development of their software solutions using Microchip devices and software/firmware components
  • Work in collaboration with other Microchip sites to design solutions and resolve customer issues
  • Participate in detailed design and code reviews of implementations by team
  • Resolve interoperability issues among SAS/SATA storage devices, Microchip SAS expanders and SAS/SATA controllers
  • Sustain current product and guide next generation product
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex software problems in embedded real-time systems
  • Work with hardware tools such as SAS Analyzer/Jammer, Logic Analyzer and JTAG debuggers such as Real View ICE, Green Hills Debugger
  • Analyze software performance (frame rates, cycle counts, cache utilization) of firmware
  • Write comprehensive engineering documentation

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor or master degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering
  • Six or more years of professional experience in embedded firmware development including:
  • SCSI (including SPC, SBC and SES), SAS and SATA protocol programming
  • SAS/NVMe/RAID HBA firmware development
  • I2C, SPI and RS232 firmware development
  • Debugging with tools like SAS analyzer/jammer/exerciser and JTAG debugger
