POSITION

Lead Software Engineer

THE ROLE

We’re looking for a Lead Software Engineer to act as equal parts individual contributor and leader of a small team of Software Engineers as we execute our product road map to provide SaaS Cloud Solutions for clinics throughout the U.S. We have a working prototype, and our next challenge is bringing it to market so we can profoundly impact the quality of care for pregnant women in underserved areas and reduce maternal mortality. You will join a team consisting of a product designer, product manager, product owner, software engineers, and an entire group of expert clinicians. Over the first year, you will:

execute on the product vision. (Our collective work aims to reduce maternal-fetal mortality. Let’s get this done.)

manage junior developers by reviewing team code, identifying and resolving coding errors, and reporting progress to leadership. (We pride ourselves in working with folks we admire and can learn from, and we want you to have a say in the team you lead.)

actively write clean, functional code

continuously improve our iterative process of lean experiments. (We want to test, learn, adjust…repeat)

WHAT YOU'LL DO

50% leading the engineering team and contributing to and supporting BBI's Mission, Purpose, Values, and Vision.

Recruit, build, grow, and lead a diverse development team. Provide mentorship to, and advocacy for the development team.

Focus on outcomes to innovate through a series of experiments and deliver a beta with a high level of market fit.

50% writing code as an individual contributor.

Implement the Roadmap and execute the product vision by writing code, reviewing code, supporting junior engineers, and contributing to an iterative process of lean experiments.

Collaborate with Product Design and Product Management to deliver a user experience that takes into account our patients and providers. Communicate the status of product development, budgets, and risks.

Collaborate with product team to design sprints and epics with bias towards execution and delivery.

Help refine our outcomes-based development methodology. Identify which best practices in agile, lean, and design thinking to adopt at BBI to support an iterative process of Plan > Do > Check > Act.

Continual research into new and emerging technologies such as AI that may help us reach our long-term product vision.

Adapt DevOps to our expanding engineering team to support lean experiments.

Adapt evolutionary architecture and emergent design practices to support flexibility.

WHO YOU ARE

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or other technology related field.

10 years' experience in software engineering

Startup experience or experience working in startup department of established company

Fluent in Lean and Agile methods.

Expert in programming languages and technologies (including, but not limited to, Angular, AWS, NoSQL databases, JavaScript)

Experience with Amazon Cloud Services (AWS)

Familiar with Design Thinking and user experience.

Ability to troubleshoot technical issues and suggest solutions.

Strong leadership and organizational abilities.

Effective oral and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills.

Detail oriented and ability to meet deadlines.

Self-directed and motivated, able to work efficiently in an autonomous setting.

Willingness to build professional relationships with staff, vendors and clients.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and healthcare team.

Ability to read, write and interpret documents, routine reports and correspondence.
