The Job
Our Curriculum Designers will be integral members of the Unpacking team. Working closely with the Director of Curriculum, you will co-develop instructional designs by applying your expertise in one or more of our core focus areas including Anti-racism, LGBTQ Rights, Gender Rights, Disability Rights, Climate Change or Product Inclusion. You will work diligently to deliver accessible and globally-relevant education on the world’s most pressing social issues. You will apply best practices in online learning, scaffolding, experiential design, constructivism, flipped classrooms, and facilitation that are both empathetic and culturally competent. As an enthusiastic educator with experience ranging across K-12, college, and adult learning, you will collaborate with fellow subject matter experts to ensure high performance impact that scales.
The Tasks
Curriculum and Assessment
Research: Apply data driven insights through literature, observations, evaluations, focus groups, interviews, and other research methodologies to inform the development of human centered curriculum, assessments, and facilitation practices.
Design: Apply best practices in instructional design and 21st Century Skills to architect experiential engagement in an online environment that incorporates scaffolding, constructivism, think-pair-share, social & emotional development, team building and flipped learning that is accessible for all learners.
Write: Develop replicable pedagogies and facilitator scripts that foster curiosity, critical thinking, self-reflection, and collaboration for subject content covering anti-racism, LGBTQ rights, gender rights, disability rights, climate change, product inclusion and more.*
Inform: Analyze, interpret, and apply key data insights from assessments to measure engagement, comprehension, belonging, growth, satisfaction, projections and more to make informed reports and recommendations on development for all stakeholders.
Facilitate: Model Unpacking’s standard of excellence in classroom management, teaching, engagement, empathy, synthesis, critical thinking, cultural competence, accessibility, call-in culture, norms-setting, and safety.

About You
- 5+ years of experience in curriculum design and instruction for youth and adult learners
- 3+ years of experience designing curriculum for learning management systems (LMS) and teaching in an online learning environment
- 3+ years of experience in experiential design with expertise in any of the following areas: gamification, team building, after-school programming, camp counseling, ropes course, organizational culture, or student affairs
- 3+ years of experience working on collaborative teams and executing strategic goals and deliverables that consistently meet efficiency, high quality, and timeliness
- 3+ years of experience co-constructing professional development training for organizational teams with a proven track record of impact, behavior change, and retention
- Demonstrated ability to work on cross-functional teams with empathy in mind and a standard of practice that acknowledges power and privilege, unique gifts in each individual, and a communication style that champions confidence and accountability
- Demonstrated track record working in social justice and human rights industries with expertise in any of the following social impact areas: Anti-racism, LGBTQ Rights, Gender Rights, Disability Rights, Climate Change, or Product Inclusion
Bonus
- Candidates with regional expertise in one or more of the following regions: *AMER - United States & Canada * EMEA - Europe, Middle East, Africa * APAC - Asia-Pacific, Australia * LATAM - Latin America
- 3+ years of experience in facilitation that is rooted in classroom management, teaching, engagement, empathy, synthesis, critical thinking, cultural competence, accessibility, call-in culture, norms-setting, and safety.
- Demonstrated experience thriving in an early stage startup with significant impact on the company’s strategic growth and scalability
- 3+ years of experience designing K-12 curriculum in accordance to state standards, Common Core Standards, and 21st Century Skills
- Proven knowledge of industry innovations, leading project management software and efficiency tools, along with a personal network of industry leading peers and advisors
