Senior Backend Engineer- Python (North America and Latin America Only)

Ukko is a venture capital and industry leaders backed applied research company that has created a field adaptive and predictive analytics platform that aggregates disconnected data from the commercial farms to generate actionable advice on the application of crop inputs (pesticide, water, and nutrients) up to a week in advance.

Your role
Overview:

As a part of the engineering team, you will be responsible for architecting Ukko Agro’s next-generation platform leveraging IoT devices to generate intelligent disease/pest/water/nutrient usage and other critical forecasts on hundreds of thousands of acres on real farms across North America and beyond. You will work closely with our science team in turning applied agriculture research into commercial software solutions. The evolved platform will further enable data-driven sustainable agriculture practices while improving the farmer’s income.

Your Impact
You will be responsible for architecting, developing and maintaining server-side features to serve and empower Ukko’s customers across the globe.
Support and coach team members; enabling them to improve the product, ship code faster, and support their growth.
Support and input on technical priorities for overall backend architecture and APIs, enabling the team to better support the end-product.
Apply your engineering and management skills through the full technical development lifecycle; including idea generation, requirements elicitation and definition, implementation and performance analysis.

Some of the key qualifications to be successful in this role are
Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent experience
Proficiency in Python with 5 years + professional work experience
Experience with building Cloud-native applications
Experience writing RESTful API endpoints using Flask
Knowledge of relational databases
Knowledge of security best practices
Proficient understanding of Git
Willingness to overcome a steep learning curve in a short period of time
Strong explanatory, collaborative and documentation skills

Good to have
Experience working with Docker
Experience working with AWS technologies – EC2, RDS, ECS, SNS, SQS etc.
Experience with unit testing and testing frameworks
Fluent in Spanish or French
