The Role

Fin Aquatic Rentals is an early stage startup that brings the rental models of E-scooters to the water. Fin operates by retrofitting small utility trailers with surfboard racks to hold around 6 paddle boards. These trailers then secure the boards via bluetooth padlocks that customers unlock with the Fin mobile app. Each board has embedded GPS tracking devices to relay their location to users inside the mobile app and also helps for tracking stolen boards. Customers pay by the minute and once the board is returned to a trailer and locked back up the rental ends and charged through the app. Fin is 1 a man start up at the moment and has finished a proof of concept trail run this summer of close to 100 customers in San Diego. Fin's company goal is not to run the board rentals itself, but to franchise the trailers and boards out and let other people run the ground operations. Fin then takes a cut out of their revenue to cover software, insurance and marketing. Fin's goal is to streamline the process for opening up paddle board rental business.

POSITION

I'm looking for someone to fill a Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) position with Fin. This person should be well rounded in many facets of marketing and also be willing to get their hands dirty a bit with facets of the business. Fin is still a very small company so being able to wear many hats and a drive to learn new skills is essential.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Fin's business can be broken down into two parts. Marketing for customers and marketing for franchise owners. The CMO will need to handle both and create customer growth and franchise growth.

• Create and own marketing campaigns for each local market that has trailers operating.

• Create and own marketing campaigns for finding potential franchise owners
• Design and manage all promotional campaigns, PR and other marketing efforts across channels (digital, social media, press etc.).
• Experiment by developing clear hypotheses, running A/B in-market tests, using data analytics to interpret test results, rolling out test wins, and implementing improvements to drive results.
• Work with Engineering to help improve website look and feel
• Own and direct social media accounts along with content creation
• Help oversee video production for commercials and instructional videos
• Help create physical marketing content (door handle flyers, mail flyers, business cards ect)

IDEAL PARTNER

• BS/BA in Marketing, Economics, or Business.

• 4+ years of marketing strategy experience.

• Functional Dexterity. Must have the ability to be a team player and wear multiple hats when called upon.

• Proven leadership skills with the ability to establish a lean and agile startup infrastructure.

• Intellectually curious, resourceful, proactive self-starter who takes initiative and has a strong work ethic.

• Strong experience and success in creating brand awareness.

• Ability to drive customer and franchise growth

SALARY

No initial salary but equity based on experience. This would not be a full time job but a great side project. I'm currently employed as a software engineer but moonlight with Fin. It would be great to find someone also willing to moonlight with Fin to help get this off the ground! Fin has no investors, I have supplied all the capital to launch Fin and have direct control as the sole proprietor. The position would be fully remote as I run this out of my garage. A local San Diego candidate is highly prefered.
