Tech / Engineering Team Lead

We are looking for a self-motivated Team Lead to bring their previous experience of successfully leading an engineering dev team to our EdTech startup. You will work directly with our CEO to do two main things: 1) Lead the dev team to finish projects 2) Setup systems / processes for how to best lead dev teams. Once those systems are in place, you’ll implement and execute those systems. Once they’re executing effectively, you’ll begin to build a team to execute them for you, resulting in your position becoming more of a managerial role to ensure the team and systems are running as efficiently and effectively as possible. We are a fast-paced environment focused on revolutionizing education by delivering our customer-facing SMS and WhatsApp messaging system.

MISSION

• Develop, maintain, and improve our Tech team & systems

OUTCOMES (Expected within 1 month of being hired)

1. Map out a one-year dev roadmap (including quarterly OKRs)

2. Have a bulletproof messaging platform to educate children worldwide, but you still want to make it better.

3. Set-up the following systems for...

• How we run weekly standup meetings will work (frequency, duration, format, accountability of meeting items, execution, etc.)
• How we run Project and Product Management
• How we move from sketch to specs to user stories to sprint map to actual dev work
• How we ensure accountability with rewards and consequences
• How the team self-manages projects
• How we perform QA/QC
• How we create dev roadmaps (including OKRs)
• How we conduct performance reviews and evaluate talent (regular performance reviews, including: what, how, when)
• How we recruit and onboard and train
• How our internship programs work (including: recruit and onboard and train)
• How we ensure team success and grow talent (Lunch and Learns, retreats, learning for growth)
• How we handle a new client project (how it’s inbound works and delegated and executed)

4. Once aforementioned systems are setup, delegate to current team (and/or recruit new team members) to execute

COMPETENCIES

• Programming itself is a language, everything else is just syntax and situational. (Props if you know Python)
• You have built enterprise level applications with multiple APIs, and lived to tell the tale. (Props if you know an SMS API)
• You’re willing to travel to ground test the platform, or you know how to recruit valuable testers in the required locations.
• You know there is always a solution, you just need to dig deeper.
• If the tool doesn’t exist, you build it.
• You’re not only great at organizing the systems, but also executing them to ensure they are completed (ex: you’re not only great at setting an agenda for a team meeting, but also ensure the tasks have been delegated and followed up on, to ensure they were properly executed)
• You have previous experience successfully managing dev teams to complete multiple projects
• You have experience building the aforementioned systems above, or know how to find the way to build them
• You know people can sometimes become efficient at the wrong things. Therefore, you ensure you and the team remain focused at being efficient on only the most important priorities to be effective, not just efficient.
