Milad DagherThe Role
We are looking for an Automation Engineer!
Our mission is making biology easier to understand. For that, nplex is pushing the boundaries of protein measurement to accelerate the discovery of precision diagnostics and medicine. We are using nanotechnology, cytometry, automation, and computation, to develop the world’s highest throughput proteomic platform, the nELISA. Today, the nELISA is capable of measuring over 100,000 proteins in a single day. In short, we are trying to do for proteomics what Illumina did for DNA sequencing.
Automation is integral to our nplex’s vision of the future. Every aspect of our wet lab operation has been built with automation in mind, from reagent production all the way to high-throughput screening (HTS). We are never satisfied with the status quo and are continuously looking for ways to expand our capabilities, and are not intimidated by really difficult problems.
We’re looking for talented engineers who are excited about the automation and scale up of life science tools. As an Automation Engineer, you will take part of an on-going 10x scale up in screening throughput. You will be part of the team architecting V2 of our production workflow which will yield as much as 100x increase in production throughput. You will be working hand in hand with our nano-engineers and software developers to develop the wetware, hardware, and software infrastructure.
Please apply if you’d like to:
● Work on a project with a strong mission – this isn’t marketing flash; we developed our technology to better measure biology and discover markers for early detection of diseases. If we’re successful, we can literally eradicate certain diseases by diagnosing them earlier;
● Develop a cutting-edge technology into a market-ready product, and play a key role in building a next-generation proteomics laboratory from the ground up;
● Work closely with leading scientists to enable the discovery of better therapeutic molecules, faster and cheaper.
What you will be doing:
● Architect and design automation workflows.
● Develop and optimize these workflows using high-end liquid-handling equipment, as well as magnetic and robotic tools.
● Design large scale assay optimization campaigns, employing DoE and other approaches, to efficiently explore probe parameter space and optimize assays.
● Write software to drive operation of lab equipment and robotics;
● Employ biochemistry and molecular methods such as: spectroscopy, protein purification, antibody conjugation, DNA modification, fluorescent labelling, fabricating and processing nanomaterials to construct assay reagents and test functional efficacy;
● Communicate analytical results to support decision-making; collaborating with the R&D and Data teams to support goals and timelines;
● Train, and work with other Engineers to maintain efficient laboratory workflows;
● Assist us in building a next-generation proteomics laboratory from the ground up!
What we’re looking for:
● An BS or MS in Engineering with Life Science experience.
● Experience implementing and using automated systems in the life sciences industry.
● Experience programming automated liquid handling systems (e.g. Beckman Coulter FX/NX, Agilent Bravo, Hamilton STAR or Vantage), OR software development capability, especially pertaining to hardware control.
● Practical knowledge of high-throughput biological processes.
● Experience in interacting with Laboratory Information Management Systems.
Nice to haves:
● Experience designing and building integrated automation infrastructure; eg. workcells for executing high-throughput processes, as well as flexible distributed automation tooling.
● Knowledge of surface chemistry and immunoassays
