Platform Engineer

At OOHLALA Mobile, we are building the mobile tools that help students succeed in school. We work with hundreds of universities and colleges across the world, helping them better engage their students and improve the student life experience on their campuses.

As a platform engineer, you will be working directly on the core platform itself, including the backend infrastructure (primarily Python based) that powers our mobile applications. You will work alongside our other talented and highly collaborative engineers to improve our platform and scale it to serve our rapidly growing client base.

You will:
• Work on the continuous development and maintenance of our REST API (including its documentation) used by the mobile apps
• Work on our backend integration system responsible for the data ingestion process with our client’s existing technologies
• Help improve our database architecture and ensure the performance of all our backend services as we scale
• Participate in the architecture planning/design process to help shape how the foundation of our platform evolves
• Help to continuously improve the development process of our entire engineering team

Our ideal candidate will:
• Have extensive experience with Python, including experience with some Python web frameworks (e.g. Django, Flask)
• Have extensive experience working with REST APIs, understand the good and bad of API designs
• Have experience working with MySQL, be knowledgeable of the common patterns in SQL schema design and optimization
• Have experience working with some key-value store databases (e.g. Redis, memcached)
• Have experience working with arbitrary third party APIs
• Have experience working with Git-based version control

Nice to haves:
• Have experience working with Elasticsearch
• Have experience administrating Linux-based servers
• Have experience working with AWS cloud services
