Merrative is looking for a full stack web developer who will be leading and managing the technology powering - merrative.com

Who are we?

Merrative is a vertical social network for avid readers to discuss ideas from books and articles you've enjoyed reading. We connect you with like minded readers to share ideas and expand them via discussions across variety of topics like technology, business, poetry, fiction, politics, etc.

With us, you can:

• discover and curate recommended books and articles across various topics.

• start or join discussions on books and articles that you'd like to talk about - as conversation threads, group sessions or offline meetups.

• form your own community across tech, news, poetry etc to curate and discuss literature on those topics.

Present Status:

The end-users are avid readers, writers, hobbyists across various niches who would like to get connected with like-minded enthusiasts to jump in to discuss ideas from literature together. The company is a network platform and not a publisher, and it is in a similar market to Twitter, Quora, or other knowledge/hobby sharing portals. We are not like GoodReads, Amazon or book specific portals.

The company is remote, but you will have to be available to work on India-friendly hours, which may be difficult from Europe, Africa, Asia or Australia.

We are a community of 7000+ following having built MVP (merrative.com). We have won business plan competitions, finalists at IIT-B Eureka 2019, Bzzwings 2020 by IIM Bangalore and featured as Mumbai top 14 upcoming innovative startups by YourStory. We are also currently enrolled in a 'path to MVP' program by IIIT-Hyderabad and pre-incubation Launchpad by NSRCEL IIM Bangalore.

Now we aim to further iterate to scale it up and strenghten personalisation aspect for which we are actively looking for a talented tech lead, if possible and found fit, at co-founder level

Expectations and Responsibilities:

• Set and drive Merrative's product vision and lead all aspects of Merrative's technological development in collaborative manner.

• Set up and manage engineering team: set goals and create timelines for tech development and deployment. Ideally, you have a CS background and actively code. No matter what, you must be able to hire and run an engineering team of at least 5-10 engineers without any CTO alongside you. You have a set of engineers you’ve worked with in the past that want to work with you again.

• Co-founder: You will be engaged in company-defining activities such as setting the culture, pitching investors and public relations.

• You are not just a manager - ideally you and 1 other person or team, interns etc can build and ship product on your own.

• Work across engineering ( Front End / Back End / QA / Dev Ops )

• Work with Marketing, Sales, Community and Event heads as a Technical advisor and help them improve their efficiency and effectiveness.

• Spend time in the community and Solve technical queries and doubts of readers who are part of Merrative network.

Requirements:

These are just ideal scenarios, if you fit even one of these, feel free to apply.

• Founder/creator experience. You have built a product from scratch and ideally scaled it to a wide audience. Ideally, you did this as a founder + CTO/CPO/CEO at your own startup. Working in a startup, freelance assignments or college projects are also applicable.

• Recruiting + management. One of the core challenges of your job will be to recruit and manage a team. Prior experience on that would be great.

• Relevant industries. We are open to anyone, but ideally you built products on social networks, community building, messengers, video based platform or edutech.

• Diversity. We will work hard to build a diverse team from the beginning, Merrative started itself with women single founder. Our focus is on making sure everyone on the team feels safe and valued. Ideally you make people feel comfortable no matter what their background and you have a track record of leading diverse teams.

Technical Requirements:

• Should know MERN Stack; React.js, Nodejs, MongoDB, Express.js. Having knowledge of react native is a plus point.

• Must know implementing ML algorithms - fluent with recommendation systems and have done projects on the same.

• Proficiency with fundamental front end languages such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

• Candidate needs to be familiar with git, firebase, AWS/GCP.
