The Role

About Charm

Our mission is to reverse climate change and return the atmosphere to 280 ppm CO₂, profitably. We convert waste biomass into carbon-rich bio-oil and inject it into permanent, underground storage as carbon removal, or reform the bio-oil to produce syngas for fossil-free steel.

Our carbon removal pathway took off in 2020 with initial purchases from customers like Stripe, Shopify & Microsoft. In 2021 and 2022 we delivered thousands of tons of carbon removal via off-the-shelf pathways, and also deployed our first R&D prototype pyrolyzer of our own. In the next 18 months, we'll build and deploy the next pyrolyzer revision, demonstrate our fossil-free ironmaking pilot, substantially expand our operations in Colorado and put thousands of tonnes of CO₂e underground.

We're looking to expand our team of ambitious creative and hands-on engineers, fabricators, operators, and forward-thinking humans. We value psychological safety and collaboration. We take calculated risks and don't sweep mistakes under the rug; instead, we pin them to the wall and learn from them. We value that everyone’s unique backgrounds and perspectives shape their work. We encourage you to read our company values.

Come help us reverse climate change. Gigatons or bust!

About the Role

Charm has grown its public image organically and with industry leading execution. This role will be the first member of the Charm team dedicated to marketing at Charm full-time and presents a unique opportunity to have a massive climate impact.

Charm needs to educate key stakeholders at corporations and in the policy world on bio-oil sequestration and carbon negative iron-making. Sharing progress and telling compelling stories to the right stakeholders at the right time is key to Charm’s continued growth.

The Marketing Lead/Program Manager will be our first marketing hire, and will report to the Head of Sales. You will identify target audiences, manage content distribution, and figure out if our marketing is working well with data driven analysis. You’ll collaborate with leadership on the strategic direction for Charm’s storytelling, but your primary responsibilities will be to execute content creation, digital advertising, and event marketing programs independently and with the support of third party contractors in a way that impacts closed deals primarily and other external objectives such as community engagement. And yes, we have a decent budget to get this done!

Responsibilities:

  • Manage digital content creation videos, digital ads, customer case studies, explainer videos, etc. Be skilled and willing to get into the details of making your own work product while also managing third party contractors on more complex projects
  • Design and execute content distribution plans, including PR pitch materials, social media content, website content, and other creative distribution methods
  • Manage internal and external resources to support rollouts of content to target audiences
  • Manage third party agency(s) to purchase extremely targeted ad inventory
  • Independently and creatively suggest revisions to Charm’s target audience
  • Suggest new ideas for storytelling the help Charm’s key target audiences understand and act on Charm’s offerings (customers for carbon removals, policy makers, regulators, and communities in which Charm operates)
  • Set strategic direction and manage Charm’s participation in industry conferences and events
  • Track results and tie marketing spend benefits to impacts that can be measured in real life (bookings, laws passed, customer Net Promoter Score, etc)

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated ability to operate marketing programs independently and measure your own results in terms of impact on the business
  • Experience coordinating media campaigns or content distribution rollouts
  • Demonstrated ability to manage third party vendors effectively
  • Ability to prioritize responsibilities and comfort with multi-tasking in a fast-paced, ever changing, ambiguous environment
  • Track record of growing market share and recognition with a new product for a B2B or B2B2B company
  • Digital media and content creation skills
  • Track record of landing complex projects with many moving parts smoothly

Bonus (but not required):

  • Carbon markets and carbon removals experience
  • Clean energy or corporate sustainability experience
