ML/AI Engineer

Are you an engineer, academic or data scientist with a background in the energy space? Is the ability to take a front row seat in the renewable energy transition across emerging markets exciting to you?

We have pilots with a number of national utility companies across Africa to deploy our microgrid dispatch optimization platform, and we're looking for someone like you to work with us initially on a part-time, project-by-project equity basis. Think an advisory role with as much hands on building as you want to do. We're also in Google's Startup program as well as NVIDIA's Inception network, so we have access to incredible technical resources and horsepower.

Responsibilities

• Improve upon current forecasting and optimization models
• Basic devops and deployment to Google Cloud
• Help us continuously implement cutting edge research in the realm of dispatch and battery optimization
• Help plan engineering roadmap and feature backlog
• Write documentation to store institutional knowledge as the team grows

You will be great in this role if you...

• Have a demonstrated technical background in the energy space (battery optimization, grid management, etc)
• Have a working knowledge of how to build neural networks and/or other optimization models in Python
• Are comfortable working with a remote team (most of our team is based in southern Africa)
• Have a desire to get in on the ground floor of a VC-backed AI company and work in the energy space
