Head of Control System Engineering

In this role you will partner with motor, actuation, power electronics and embedded systems engineers to develop robust and highly-customized control algorithms for unique applications.

Responsibilities include:

• Authoring of engineering requirements and specifications based upon analysis and regulatory requirements.
• Design, analysis/simulation, and implementation of digital control systems for electromechanical systems.
• Characterize, develop, prototype, and debug control system firmware on physical embedded systems.
• Design, implement, and maintenance of automated system(s) for optimal control system characterization and tuning at scale.
• Perform failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) and remediation procedures related to control systems.
• Define factory verification/validation and calibration procedures for control systems.
• Communicate progress cross-functionally (in writing, verbally, and via presentations).

Key Qualifications:

• BS in Engineering, Robotics or CS required (MS or PhD preferred).
• 8+ years of related experience and skilled in the development, theory, design, modeling and implementation of motion control algorithms with emphasis on servo control and actuation systems.
• Experienced in state-space design, traditional controls methods (e.g., PID, observer/compensator) and modern control techniques (e.g., MPC/LQR).
• Experienced in control system state management (e.g., gain scheduling, bumpless transfers, state machine development).
• Experience in both linear and non-linear estimation.
• Hands on experience prototyping control algorithms and demonstrated capability at an executive level.
• Confident with source control (eg., GIT) on multi developer projects.
