The Role

mParticle is looking for a Head of FP&A to lead our financial reporting, forecasting, and analysis activities. This role will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer.

Our FP&A team drives the strategic planning process and is responsible for setting, monitoring, and creating visibility into company performance against growth and cash burn goals. We are accountable for identifying, analyzing, and reporting on key performance indicators; driving and overseeing a rigorous budgeting and forecasting process; advising senior management on the financial implications of strategic and operational activities; providing key data insights and metrics to business partners; and identifying trends and areas for business improvement.

What behaviors does a successful candidate exemplify?

  • You start by starting, even when (or especially when) the problem and/or solution is not yet well defined. You have a bias to act first and iterate rather than hold out for the 'perfect' solution.
  • You actively fight against learned helplessness (e.g., we’ve always done it this way), constantly seek opportunities to eliminate, optimize, or automate, and proactively deliver improvements that save time and simplify.
  • You’re a highly collaborative finance partner who enjoys working directly with the business. You use data and analytics to inform and influence decision-making, including in situations where you don’t have direct authority.
  • You’re comfortable applying judgment and weighing the trade-offs of competing business decisions and their estimated financial outcomes. You know when and how to escalate to unblock and move quickly.
  • You’re a strong written communicator and are interested in asking the right questions to help inform high quality decision-making.
  • You’re generally dissatisfied with acting 'just' within the finance team. You’re genuinely curious about how the business works and believe that furthering your business understanding helps you be a more effective finance partner.

Responsibilities

  • Own the forward-looking financial forecast model in Adaptive Insights to guide strategic and resource allocation decisions for the company.
  • Support the development, reporting and benchmarking of key corporate operational metrics in monthly, and quarterly reporting packages (e.g., Board of Directors materials, C-suite reporting, etc.).
  • Partner with and build strong relationships with business partners across the organization; working closely to develop and translate financial forecasts and operational metrics into actionable guidance that assists with decision making.
  • Proactively identify areas for business improvement and produce persuasive, data-driven arguments to support good decisions.
  • Independently manage tasks in a deadline-driven environment with a high level of precision.
  • Oversee and facilitate the Procurement function for software and other third party services across finance, security, privacy and legal teams.
  • Support AWS and COGS analytics in collaboration with engineering and business operations to drive product gross margin improvements.
  • Review and reconcile Annual Recurring Revenue (ARR) and GAAP revenue for new logo, upsell, compression, and churn contract activities.

Desired Experience

  • 6+ years in FP&A, corporate finance, investment banking, or accounting (SaaS experience a plus)
  • Solid understanding of accounting standards and modeling financial statements
  • Passion to increase reliance on financial systems, eliminate manual effort, and reduce opportunities for errors in financial reporting and planning.
  • Ability to quickly learn and become an expert in various financial software tools (e.g., Netsuite, Salesforce, Adaptive Insights, etc.)
  • Excellent Excel skills
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills for interacting both internally (others in the finance team, business partners, executives) and externally (investors, board members, etc.)
  • Detail-oriented and scrappy problem solver
  • Existing experience with Netsuite, Salesforce, and/or Adaptive Insights a plus.

Company Benefits

• 100% company paid health care (medical, dental, vision) for employees enrolled in our baseline plan with affordable cost sharing options for your dependents. We make certain you’re protected, have the options you need for care, and that it’s affordable for all.
  • If you’re enrolled in our high deductible plan, we fully cover your full deductible through annual Health Savings Account contributions which are yours to keep. This is for both individuals and for those with dependents.
  • A remote-first work environment with unlimited vacation, 11 paid company holidays, and quarterly mental health reboot days.
  • Free mental health coverage through our partnership with BetterHelp which provides you and your dependents with unlimited counseling sessions - all at no cost to you.
  • An ownership culture where everyone receives stock options and can fully participate in mParticle’s success.
  • Parental leave for maternity (12 paid weeks) and parental leave for the supporting parent (6 paid weeks) and real encouragement to take that time to bond as a family.
  • Generous wellness programs, learning and development opportunities, pet insurance for our furry family members, and so much more!
  • Here at mParticle we embrace the differences that make us unique. We are dedicated to building an inclusive environment that fosters respect and celebrates an array of backgrounds and perspectives.
  • Employment opportunities are available to all applicants without regard to race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.
