About the team

Bopple's Engineering team is responsible for the development, management and constant optimisation of our borderless platform at high-velocity. They build tools and services that make complex user experiences simple and efficient, as well as iterate and maintain the platform as we scale.

As a rapidly expanding business, there is a high degree of opportunity for progression, creativity, and ownership.

About the role

We are looking for passionate backend engineers to build and scale the services powering our interactive web and mobile applications. We firmly believe that design is not merely how it looks, but how it works. With this in mind, our backend engineers work on Product Engineering teams which are dedicated to creating the most seamless, integrated products possible.

If you are a server-side engineer who enjoys taking ownership of product initiatives and carrying them from concept to production, we want to hear from you.

You will work closely with product managers and engineering leaders to define technical strategy and architecture for our growing commerce platform. You will report directly to our CTO and Head of Engineering.

Key responsibilities

• Write server-side code, create robust high-volume production applications, and develop prototypes quickly.
• Design and build new features into the Bopple platforms and product building backend services with Java.
• Building and maintaining RESTful APIs and microservices architecture.
• Document best practices, guides, systems design, architectural decisions, and code design specifications.
• Ensure the reliability of systems essential to users and businesses powered by Bopple.
• Set boundaries, priority and milestones around technical problems of wide scope.
• Practice disciplined software engineering including automated testing, code reviews, and writing beautiful, pragmatic code.
• Analyse data to drive product insights and to inform decisions.

Key skills and competencies

• Experience with writing code for complex, high-volume digital platforms.
• Experience with relational database development from schema design to writing complex, optimized queries.
• Experience with distributed version control systems, continuous integration, and continuous deployment systems.
• You’re able to empathise with users and quickly grasp the issues they’re facing.
• You find simple, elegant solutions to hard problems.
• You are well organised and have no problems meeting strict deadlines.
• You are not afraid to experiment with new technologies outside your comfort zone.
• You are able to multitask, prioritise, and handle time effectively.

Bonus points

• Experience building, integrating and shipping applications or frameworks in a SaaS company or fast-growing startup.
• Experience with point-of-sale or eCommerce platforms.
• Startup or entrepreneurial experience. You know what it means to be an entrepreneur, and can empathise and share your learnings with our customers.
