*Investigative Reporter Needed *
Chatham Weekly is looking for an investigative reporter to join their team. Candidates must be well versed in research methods, filing FOIA’s, filing documents with the Attorney General and understand best practices for investigative reporting. This position requires an investigative journalist who is not afraid to ruffle feathers and reveal corruption.
The successful candidate will have reporting skills and be comfortable with AP Style writing, routinely pitching enterprise stories and staying on top of community leaders' decisions adversely affecting the Chatham County Community.
Responsibilities
•This position is responsible for solutions-oriented, watchdog journalism with and in service to the communities and people affected by the issues we cover within Chatham County
•Reports to the Editor In Chief at Chatham Weekly
•Enterprise investigative stories for multiple platforms including social media
•Pitches, writes, and reports content for Chatham Weekly following AP Style news format
•Cover big stories and major breaking news when needed
•Uses credible sources, documents, data, public records and other journalistic tools to develop, report, and write exclusive stories and investigative projects
•Gathers and rewrites material to convey relevant information
•Develops and maintains relationships with civil leaders and local media to stay abreast of newsworthy events, local issues, and news
•Oversees and assists with all investigative journalism procedures
•Submits FOIA requests and utilizes public records effectively in investigative and government accountability reporting
•Other job-related duties as assigned
Requirements
•Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization
• 2 years of professional, full time experience in investigative reporting
•Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered
•Experience with long form in depth writing and research that may require combing through documents to link patterns
• Must have a minimum of 3 work samples published in a refertable publication including University newspaper
•Skilled in researching topics for news and interviewing various sources
•Strong organizational skills and an ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects within deadlines
•Ability to establish and maintain sources to attract new and evolving stories

Originally starting out as a community newsletter in 2013 Chatham Weekly has grown to a weekly newspaper and website that strives to inform, inspire and affect change in the Chatham County Community.
Salary range $40,000 - $45,000 based on experience
