The Role

Key Responsibilities
The Controller is a key accounting leader who will oversee Sagamore Blue’s accounting operations for our marinas management company. The Controller will report directly to the President and Director of Marinas and will be responsible for refining the company accounting operating procedures, compiling, and communicating monthly financial results, budgeting, reporting and analyzing property performance. A successful Controller will combine excellent analytical skills with a thorough knowledge of accounting principles to analyze financial reports and forecasts over multiple assets. The ideal candidate has experience collaborating and/or managing a team of accountants and junior accountants and has experience working with multiple revenue streams and across multiple business lines and or locations. Duties will include ensuring accuracy and effectiveness in all of our accounting tasks. These may include but will likely not be limited to:

Financial
• Verify, allocate, post, and reconcile accounts payable and receivable
• Produce error-free accounting reports and present their results monthly
• Support and administer monthly and yearly close out processes
• Establish and refine a companywide financial standards and chart of accounts used for transitioning new properties to company accounting protocol
• Review and when necessary edit/input data in our accounting systems
• Assist in establishing capital budgets for individual capex projects and maintain the record keeping for said projects
• Run comparative financial and budget analysis cross property and cross period for both operations and capex
• Liaise with tax accounting to provide them information needed for tax returns
• Establish and maintain depreciation records for real and personal property
• Direct internal and external audits to ensure compliance
• Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
• Ensure compliance with GAAP principles
• Credit facility loan administration and compliance
• Coordinate with property level GM’s for accounting and reporting matters
• Assist and coordinate with other departments to fulfill marina operations and reporting requirements.
• Assist with providing financial information needed for compliance and regulatory filings
• Review and recommend modifications to accounting systems and procedures

Administrative & Investor Relations
• Manage payroll and benefits administration supported by our payroll processor
• Process new employees set up, update to employment, and maintaining internal records, such as pay increases, title changes, and terminations
• Help prepare materials and briefing documents for senior management and investors
• Prepare and review investor reports, capital call and distribution notices
• Support investor relations team with data collection and ad-hoc requests
• Grow a team of accounting professionals as company scales

Skills and Experience We Would Prefer You Have:
• Proven experience as a financial controller, accounting supervisor, chief or senior accountant
• BS degree in Accounting, Finance or relevant
• Relevant certification (e.g. CMA or CPA) preferred
• Thorough knowledge of basic accounting procedures
• In-depth understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
• Experience within or relevant to hospitality, real estate, marina or multi-location operations
• Expertise with financial accounting statements
• Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process
• Hands-on experience with accounting software packages, such as QuickBooks & NetSuite
• Willingness to learn and consider new management and accounting programs
• Advanced Excel skills
• Accuracy and attention to detail
• Aptitude for numbers and quantitative skills
• Project management skills/multi-tasking (e.g., balancing workload between short-term and longer-term projects)
• A technology forward attitude and proficiency in the use of point of sales, computer-based property management, and computer-based communication tools and a willingness to consider new programs
• Strong verbal and written communication skills and proven success using those skills to help lead a people focused team.
