The Role

If degreed: 2 + years’ experience as a Jr. Network Systems Engineer on a medium sized network of servers, desktop systems and communications devices using current technologies.
Non-degreed: 4 + years’ experience as a Jr. Network Systems Engineer on a medium sized network of servers, desktop systems and communications devices using current technologies.
Advanced understanding of VLAN’s and configuring switches, wireless access points, firewalls and configuration, IDS (Intrusion Detection System), WAF (Web Application Firewall), WAN integration, and ISP bandwidth monitoring.
Advanced knowledge of VMware; vCenter, vMotion, create data pools, VM guests, migrations, Hot-add memory\CPU\Storage, ESXi and vSphere upgrades, SRM and DRS.
Preferred Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Internet Security Systems, Computer Networking or Information Technology.
Preferred knowledge of JUNOS, CCNP, Palo Alto, MCSE, Security+, Network+, A+, ITIL.
Advanced understanding of ITIL and IT management standards, Security + standards in alignment with CISSP, and Network+ standards
Experience with SharePoint.
Able to travel about 10% a year, within the US.

Position Summary:

The Network Systems Engineer is responsible for the efficient operation of the company’s WAN, LAN, telecommunication operation, network core and backbone, security, storage area networks and storage units, server architecture and operation, Active Directory architecture and implementation, disaster recovery and data center operations, VMware, and data integrity. Assist in supervising and supporting desktop computing environment, related peripherals, and end user support. The Network Systems Engineer assists the Director of IT in maintaining an optimized IT operation. This will include project management and implementation, vendor management and purchasing, life cycle management, knowledge management, change and configuration management, and ITIL fundamentals in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements for all office locations. Other duties can include SQL DB maintenance, SharePoint administration, troubleshooting and repair of cabling and termination points, workstations, and network security, and will document processes and pertinent information in company knowledgebase tools. Will perform other duties as assigned.

What a typical day will look like:

Install and configure end-user workstations and related hardware/software
Perform needs assessment of all servers, including installation of additional hardware to improve performance where necessary to support company IT operations
Setup and maintain server and network architecture
Ensure that physical network connections (i.e. Ethernet jacks, VoIP Phones) are in proper working order
Serve as an escalation point for support, system monitoring, configuration management, asset management, and environmental controls
Maintain and troubleshoot storage area network, fiber channel and ISCSI connections, and storage related monitoring
Help enforce Information Security as it relates to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996. Compliance of HIPAA Privacy and Security and Internal TRI-AD IT policies and procedures is mandatory for all TRI-AD personnel
Work with network protocols, TCP/IP sub-netting, OSPF, DNS, DHCP, NAT, DMZ, network port services, and IPSEC
Support VoIP phones: Program Hunt groups and ACD, move extensions, configure new phones, and troubleshoot issues
Collaborate with other teams to troubleshoot, innovate, and problem solve
