Our first-to-market application engages race fans through a valuable and unique fusion of fantasy style gaming, motorsports content, and built-in social functionality. Our vision is to be “the home screen for race fans” for those that use our application.

Location-
This role is located in Portland, Oregon, however GridRival is open to a remote position for the right candidate.

Key Mission of This Role-
As a Principal Engineer, you will help us build a world-class fantasy sports and sports betting experience. You will help us execute stabilization, scaling, and feature development needs. You will help continue a culture of engineering excellence, while upholding and maintaining our core values.

You value code maintainability and established development patterns. You strive to produce the best possible product, both in performance and user experience. You understand the value of code on the ground and know how to intelligently scale products while understanding and mitigating risk.

You are comfortable executing on multiple levels day to day: contributing to existing codebases, planning new features and services, administrating cloud based infrastructure, mentoring and pairing with other engineers, diagnosing and resolving reported issues, researching and recommending solutions, improving development tools and best practices, user acceptance testing, automating manual tasks, as well as administrative tasks.

Key Responsibilities of This Role-

You will be responsible for the following outcomes:

• Contribution to planning and definition of product roadmap such as: additional sports, additional game types, game customization, and entry into new markets
• Delivery of platform roadmap features on time.
• Maintaining a culture of quality in development and deployment practices.
• Contributing to documentation of new and existing systems.
• Ensuring the scalability of infrastructure to a continually growing user base.
• Diagnosing system issues at scale.
• Mentorship and collaboration with the engineering team.
• Contribution to automation of processes.

Key Outcomes of This Role-

You will be responsible for the following outcomes:

• Increase in test coverage over core business logic.
• Increase in user retention.
• Increasing application performance client and server side.
• Reduce turnaround time on issue resolution.

Qualifications-

Methodical approach to problem solving.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Strong experience maintaining and debugging web based applications at scale.
Strong experience in programming languages, like PHP and JavaScript.
Strong understanding of design patterns and algorithms.
Strong experience designing complex digital systems.
Passionate about healthy team culture and collaboration

Compensation-
$150,000 - $180,000/yr depending on experience, background, and skills.
