The Role

Who We Are Looking For

We are looking for a Director of Engineering to lead our engineering team through our next phase of growth. In this leadership role, you'll manage and execute on our engineering roadmap by designing, developing, and implementing applications and services for enterprise-level systems. This is a hands-on role so the ideal candidate will be as comfortable managing a team as they are architecting solutions and writing code.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of engineering management experience building high performing teams. They prioritize well, communicate clearly, and understand how to drive a high level of focus and excellence with engineering teams.

Candidates must have a proven record of building a culture centered on customer focus, efficient execution, high quality, rigorous testing, deep monitoring, and solid deployment practices.

You are a team player who wants to get in on the ground floor of a mission-driven healthcare technology startup and revolutionize the healthcare payments experience.

*What You Will Do *

  • Lead and build an agile development team to develop automated, mobile-first, and patient-first technology that brings easeful efficiency to the patient payments industry.
  • Support the engineering team in achieving a high level of technical excellence, stability, and scalability.
  • Drive the technical strategy and roadmap and priorities for your team, and work with dependencies across the company.
  • Collaborate closely with product and design team members to build new products, and with our sales team to provide the best solutions for clients.
  • Help team members grow in their career and skill set so they can scale their career with the fast-paced growth of our company.
  • Lead by example: be a meaningful, hands-on contributor
  • Engage with customers as a technical leader. Understand needs, guide technical discussions, and train other engineers to work with customers.
  • Manage processes to help the team do its best work.

*What You Will Need *

  • Industry Experience – You are an expert in the Microsoft stack and have at least 5 years experience in our required technologies. You have experience working with health tech platforms like Epic, Cerner, Athena, and Redox and experience with SFTP and protocols like HL7, EDI, and FHIR.
  • Entrepreneurial Spirit – You are just as comfortable leading client conversations as you are writing software and process documentation. You like rolling up your sleeves, solving complex problems, identifying areas of opportunity, and taking action to deliver results.
  • Enthusiasm - Your energy positively impacts the RexPay team in every interaction.
  • Persistence – You have demonstrated grit in challenging situations that will enable you to move forward with momentum. You are excited by the challenge of leading our first enterprise integrations, working through unknowns, and establishing our processes.
  • Team Player – You know how to give and receive feedback well. You know how to get things done efficiently – relying on the right resources within the team when needed.

Required Technologies:

  • C#
  • .NETCore
  • Web API
  • Cosmos DB
  • SQL Server
  • Azure App Services
  • Azure Functions
  • CI/CD
  • AppCenter

Technologies that are a plus:

  • Snowflake
  • Xamarin
  • Blazor

What You Will Get

  • Competitive base annual salary compensation package.
  • First-10-employee-level equity.
  • Three weeks paid vacation and benefits, including Medical, Dental, Vision, Parental Leave, ancillary plans, and 401k.
  • Flexible, remote work environment and / or dog-friendly in-person office, with a friendly and passionate team.
  • A chance to be at the forefront of bringing the empowerment and convenience of automation and mobile technology to the healthcare industry.

Who We Are

Rivia Health (formerly RexPay) is a healthcare payments technology, seed-stage startup. We are on a mission to rescue patients from medical bill mayhem by helping health systems solve common patient billing pain points and enabling patients to pay all their providers in one place. As a result, we help health systems increase cash flow, lower operating costs, and improve the patient experience. Being sick is a pain. Medical bills shouldn't be.

We just celebrated our 3rd anniversary as a company. Thus far, we have raised $2.5MM in investment funding and have developed a ‘Cadillac’ product that sees 2X faster payments, 4X the user experience ratings, and 5X the adoption rates of competitive platforms. We are live with our first three customers. Our next milestone is to close our first enterprise health system contract. This traction will support our next major funding round, a $3MM series A round, which we plan to close by Q4, 2021.

*Who is Supporting Us *

The Rivia Health team has attracted a strong group of investors and advisors including Randy Lipps (Founder and CEO of Omnicell), Brenda Schmidt (Founder and CEO of Solera Health), Mick Murray (Former CFO of Blue Shield California), Heidi Jannenga (Co-Founder and Chief Clinical Officer of WebPT), and Matt Wandoloski (Former CEO of United Healthcare), among others.

*Recognition We Have Received *

Rivia Health has been recognized as an Arizona Innovation Competition Awardee, Venture Madness Finalist, and Flinn Foundation Scholarship Awardee as well as a graduate of the Center for Entrepreneurial Innovation.

Outside of Phoenix, Rivia Health won first place at the Global Health Summit Innovation Competition in early 2020, was recognized by The Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) as one of five finalists for the Startup Cup competition for the most innovative solution for bending the healthcare industry cost curve, and were interviewed as finalists at Y-Combinator in 2018.

*Where We Are *

We are based in Phoenix, Arizona, but primarily work remotely as a team. This position can be fully remote. When not remote, we work at the Galvanize office space in downtown Phoenix. Rachel, our CEO, is actively involved in the Phoenix startup community. She is a member of StartupAZCollective, a mentor and recruiting employer for Girls in Tech Phoenix, and an advisory board member of the Phoenix Healthcare Tech Council.
