Backend Engineer

Creation Labs is looking for a data engineer to help us support our next stage of growth, including Innovate UK funding and numerous partnerships. For this role, we will occasionally interview candidates that do not meet all of the recommended criteria, as long as they show an exceptional level of talent and have clearly demonstrated at least some of the data engineering requirements.

We are building energy-efficient Autopilot for trucks and heavy goods vehicles (HGVs). That way they are safer, more fuel-efficient and easier to control. Our solution can be retrofitted to existing trucks and is designed to augment the drivers’ skills. Think better Tesla Autopilot, but for trucks. We are backed by Y Combinator (investors in Stripe, Cruise and AirBnB), Accel, Greg Brockman and many others. We have received Innovate UK and Horizon 2020 funding.

We are looking for a talented Electronics/Hardware Engineer to join our team of four highly talented engineers. We are a team of 5 including people with PhDs from UCL, people who worked at Lyft Level 5, Graphcore, Amazon, Microsoft and an author of a textbook on GANs. We are remote friendly but you need to be based in the UK and will open up our London office in 2021.

What you’ll be doing:

• Writing reliable, high-throughput pipelines on AWS
• Writing workflow automation tools to help support our machine learning engineers in working with data
• Supporting data uploads from our hardware into our cloud infrastructure

What you must have 70%+ of:

• BS or MS in computer science, information technology or equivalent work experience
• 3+ years of experience programming (ideally some interpreted language e.g. Python and some compiled C/C++)
• 3+ years of professional work experience
• Linux, Docker, AMI experience
• Ansible, Terraform experience
• 2+ years experience with AWS, Azure or GCloud and data-related products (e.g. in AWS Batch, EFS, S3, Lambda)
• Experience monitoring with e.g. CloudWatch, DataDog or Sentry

Bonus points!

• Familiarity with ISO26262 and other automotive safety standards
• Know things about cars, CAN, J1939, MISRA C, programming, and automotive standards
• Knowledge of camera software and hardware integration (e.g. OpenCV codecs/backends)
• ASIL-B+ safety rated code
• 5+ years of professional work experience
