The Role

Job Purpose
The COO is a member of the leadership team, who contributes to the strategic planning and future direction of the company. They handle the day-to-day operations of a growing start-up company including communications, marketing, budget, and program management. This role must establish and lead an effective internal team, optimize internal processes, and encourage the company to grow sustainably. This includes cultivating, recruiting, and retaining a diverse staff and contributing to IDC’s overall equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives. They will facilitate communication among all departments including regular consultation with the CEO and the Chief Content Officer.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee day to day operations within the organization
  • Establish a communication matrix within the company
  • Facilitate timely communication among the leadership team, instructors, contractors, and department heads, and work collaboratively with shareholders.
  • Develops organization and project management strategies
  • Lead by example, modeling values, behaviors, and practices for the organization. Ensure a safe and supportive working environment.
  • Ensure that the resources and support available to staff members and contractors are sufficient to achieve the goals of the organization.
  • Lead staff in maintaining a climate that centers IDC’s core values of anti-racism, creativity, integrity, excellence, and sustainability
  • Establish, communicate, and manage the education and educational content release schedule; coordinate necessary teacher meetings, onboarding, offboarding, and support the incorporation of feedback for improved educational quality.
  • Oversee the production of in-person and online workshops and events.
  • Work with IDC’s financial advisor to build and maintain budgets.
  • Oversee all company expenditures and establish methods of maintaining budget control.
  • Coordinate and support IDC contractors including website development and tech support among others.
  • Build a successful marketing team to develop and grow customer base, track industry leads, and support the business in developing relationships with clients
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Aptitude for leading and cultivating teams
  • Aptitude for technology and asynchronous working
  • Detail-oriented, independent self-starter
  • Ability to manage a remote team with variable working hours
  • Background or training in cultural competencies, fostering and cultivating diverse teams of people.
  • Understanding of the professional and academic entertainment landscape
  • Passion for a fast-paced, quickly growing company
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Previous work in a start-up or small business (encouraged)
  • Ability to work independently and autonomously to get the job done
  • Skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word), Quickbooks, Slack as well as various cloud-based programs.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple projects and conflicting priorities
  • Creative problem-solving ability to create sustainable solutions for a small business that is growing quickly
  • Strong flexibility and the ability to easily adapt to change.
  • Strong commitment to diversity and inclusion.
