The company

Settled was founded on the belief there needs to be real change in the way we buy and sell houses. We are the creators and leaders of a new category of real estate transaction that we call Tap-to-Buy property.

Tap-to-buy property is the idea that in future, once you’ve found a house you want to own, making it yours will simply be a case of tapping ‘Buy’. And having to navigate today’s broken system will feel as alien as doing the logistics on your Amazon order. Or standing in the street to hail a cab.

We’re led by a team including ex-Google execs and serial entrepreneurs, and have the knowledge and experience in the sector to make our ambitious vision a reality. Settled is also venture-backed by firms including 500.co, Piton Capital, Accelerated Digital Ventures and Connect Ventures.

We’re at that exciting stage where we’ve just launched the first version of our product to market, so we’re working largely on greenfield projects. Following the debut of our tap-to-buy platform, we expect to grow rapidly in 2021 and beyond.

The role

This role is for someone who is design and user experience led, and who enjoys engineering that passion into a great user interface. You’ll report to the Head of Engineering and work collaboratively in a small product development team. We have Kanban-style workflows and rely on tools like GitLab and various services from Google Cloud.

On the engineering side:

• You have a deep understanding of semantic HTML.
• You like to architect your CSS and have worked with SASS or similar CSS pre-processors.
• We use Vue.js so you’ll need good JavaScript knowledge and experience with API integration.
• Accessibility principles and best practices are part of everything you build.
• Know when and how to apply performance techniques.
• Develop and style responsive components with knowledge of cross-device capabilities and enjoy maintaining them in our Storybook.js design system.

On the design side:

• You must have excellent visual design awareness and will be responsible for brand and UI consistency.
• Enjoy typography minutiae and the gritty details that make a great, universal user experience.
• Apply style guidelines autonomously and enjoy having an input into them.
• Collaborate with, and synthesise feedback from other engineers, designers, and users.
