Development Executive, Wattpad Studios (Remote in Europe)

In this newly created role, the Development Executive will work closely with the Content team (based in Toronto and LA) to adapt Wattpad’s European IP library into television/streaming series, feature films, digital series, and content for emerging technologies. Using Wattpad’s data and community, the Development Executive will help Wattpad Studios push the boundaries of the entertainment industry in the European markets.

What you'll be doing:
- Develop and oversee a slate of scripted projects geared towards the European markets based on Wattpad’s IP library, data analytics, and insights from the passionate community of readers and writers
- Service existing partnerships with European entertainment companies
- Execute on strategic goals for the Studio in the region
- Oversee current production
- Work with the Data and Content teams to identify priority properties for adaptation
- Find and pitch new material with a creative point of view and an eye towards marketplace viability
- Identify and secure new talent for projects in development
- Build and maintain relationships with studio and production partners and cultivate new ones
- Build relationships with writers, producers, production companies, and directors
- Liaise between partners and Wattpad writers
- Shepherd negotiations for IP rights, overall deals, and key project hires
- Provide notes on pitches, outlines, scripts, and cuts
- Identify and pursue potential new business opportunities
- Travel within Europe when necessary as business dictates

What we're looking for:
- Creative and passionate about storytelling
- Ability to thrive in an innovative, entrepreneurial environment
- Proven skills (3+ years at the executive level) in development and production as a seller and/or buyer in at least one field: television, film, and digital
- Fluent in German; ideally also fluent in French and/or Italian
- Deep understanding of the entertainment marketplace in the target countries
- Experience in crafting or receiving pitches at a production company, studio, or network
- Strong relationships with studios, networks, agents, managers, producers, and writers
- Polished and effective communicator and pitcher
- Team player who works well with others; assertive and enthusiastic
- Avid reader
