Techstep.com is an early-stage internet company based in Austin, TX. We're building a self-serve online platform that helps small businesses find, buy, and onboard software that fit their business goals!

We started building Techstep after realizing that small businesses needed better tools and resources to adapt and thrive in a digital-first world. Each day there are countless new tools and software created, but that means it gets harder for small business owners and employees (like doctors, accountants, architects, store managers, etc.) to confidently choose between all the options.

We’re looking for a (Senior) Software Engineer who's excited to join an early-stage company and help shape our team, product, and processes. In particular, our team is looking to add someone who enjoys moving fast in the 0-to-1 phase. This is a chance to work across the stack and help shape our infra/architcture decisions, building on top of the latest technologies, frameworks, and micro-services.

What You Will Do:

• Build new and compelling features for internal and external users.
• Uphold our high engineering standards and bring consistency to the many codebases and processes you will encounter.
• You’re responsible for what you’re building, and you have creative control over the direction you take.
• Work with engineering, design, and ops to ideate, iterate on, and implement large pillars of our product.
• Help continue to build a world-class Engineering team, by helping attract, interview, and onboard your future team members during this exciting time of growth.
• Work at all levels of the stack, from AWS+Node.JS+SQL to React+HTML+CSS.

Who You Are:

• You have 4+ years of experience with web technologies and web application architecture.
• You have 1-2+ years of React experience. Gatsby is a plus, but not required.
• You have 1-2+ years of backend experience - Node, Express, MySQL DB.
• You have some experience in growth marketing and SEO, or an interest to learn.
• You have experience starting things from scratch or creating an architecture from zero.
• You take a thoughtful approach to decision making; knowing how to balance moving fast and digging deep.
• You’re a software engineering generalist who cares deeply about user-centric product development.

What You May Also Work On:

• Building and adding new functionality to the Techstep dashboard to help users run their business.
• Build tools for exploring data from multiple sources in a single, easy to use, portal.
• You will get to work on new, emerging tools and technologies such as GatsbyJS, GraphQL, Elastic Search. You’ll also have a say in the tech we choose from here on out as well.
