Chief Architect & Engineer

SIGNiX is searching for an experienced Chief Architect & Engineer who is a recognized leader in best practices and processes for software engineering in a highly reliable, efficient, and secure environment. This individual will inspire and lead a team of developers and report directly to our Chief Technology Officer. Our ideal candidates bring a consistent track record of building high-quality B2B software / SaaS products and services that are highly extensible, reliable, secure, and performant at scale.

Essential Job Functions:
• Guide engineers, lead design discussions, prove out concepts through prototypes and be on the front lines of implementing the hardest parts of our production systems
• Enforce application security design, apply security best practices in our SDLC, and mitigate security vulnerabilities
• Promote a positive work environment; select and train new team members; continuously provide feedback, mentoring, and coaching to inspire a high-performing team of software engineers
• Identify and mitigate architecture, engineering, infrastructure, and security risks
• Perform threat and vulnerability analyses by updating and enhancing threat models
• Design and develop software in collaboration with development staff in a Java/J2EE environment
• Review current system security measures and recommend and implement enhancements
• Focus on code delivery with speed, stability, security, and scale
• Create appropriate collateral to support the SDLC, including design documents and programming specifications using Agile tools (Jira), wikis (Confluence) and ad-hoc status updates
• Maintain in-depth knowledge of the organization's technologies and architectures
• Develop and maintain an aspirational architectural road map for the enterprise
• Research and evangelize new technologies to increase technical innovation and efficiency and improve quality and pace while evaluating existing technologies and standardize, migrate or sunset items as appropriate

Preferred Skills:
• Take an active role in the wider software development community as a leader with a point of view. Have experience communicating technical topics to external entities.
• Experience migrating software applications from legacy standpoints into the cloud / containerization and then further into microservices.
• In depth understanding of cloud cybersecurity standards, frameworks, and best practices as well as SOC 2 / ISO 27001.
• Significant and relevant experience in the secure transaction industry.
• Experience with both front-end and back-end development / interfaces, as well as proven, demonstrable problem-solving capability of production issues.
• Bonus points for backgrounds including Docker / Kubernetes, single sign-on implementations, symmetric / asymmetric cryptography, PKI, Thales or SafeNet HSM development, digital certificate issuance processes.
• Experience working with Veracode static / dynamic code scanning.
• Certifications:
o CISA/CISM, CCSP, CISSP, Security+
o AWS Architect / AWS CCP

We are open to remote candidates but extra points for willingness to relocate or work on-site at our headquarters office in Chattanooga, TN.

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science / Electrical Engineering or related field required. Advanced degree preferred.

Experience:

• 10+ years of demonstrable, successful programming experience in an Agile, JAVA/J2EE environment in fast growing, high technology companies deploying solutions to on premise, hybrid and cloud platforms (preferably AWS). Cloud experience should include large-scale solutions, leveraging key features such as local and global load balancing, HA, DR, and multi-region services. Experience in multiple infrastructure domains in areas such as servers, storage, network, virtualization, management tooling, and application delivery platforms
• 5+ years of architecture leadership and mentoring of software development teams.
• 4+ years implementing security strategies, threat modeling, secure programming, and crypto systems.
