The Role

Maps are no longer static. Our maps represent the ever-evolving world, accessing, aggregating, and adapting anonymous data from millions of sensors and phones in real-time. Mapbox has the exciting opportunity to power devices and products across the next frontier in location-based data, such as Internet of Things and AR/VR.

Whether you’re watching the delivery of your grocery order on Instacart, looking at a gym on ClassPass, sending your snaps on Snapchat, tracking your personal best on Strava, monitoring your gas budget on Metromile, or checking today’s forecast on The Weather Channel, Mapbox is the location and maps within those apps. We’re changing how people move by live-mapping the world. We are the developer platform for location.

What We Do

The Mobile Telemetry SDK team builds the open source library that powers the collection of anonymous data about the map and device location to continuously update and improve your map experience. Customers of our SDK include apps on Android, iOS, React Native, and Unity. We work with devices of all shapes and forms, from the latest flagship phone to tablets, laptops, smartwatches, HMD, and embedded boards. Our developers build apps, games and navigation experiences that top the App Store and Play Store rankings, and we are constantly working together to help them build what’s next, whether that’s an Augmented Reality game or an Autonomous Driving experience.

You will also be working closely with the Data Engineering team. This is the team responsible to processes billions of events and terabytes of data to provide visibility into how our customers use our products, and helps everyone at Mapbox make decisions informed by data. We are built on top of AWS. We use tools like Kinesis, Redshift, S3, and EMR. We automate tasks with Lambda, ECS, Airflow, and scheduled events. We talk about data in terms of streams, ponds, lakes and other geographic terms. We are a map company, after all.

What You'll Do

* Help build and maintain our Mobile Telemetry SDK for iOS and Android.
* Support internal and external clients using the Mobile Telemetry SDK.
* Rally a team around a technical roadmap, deadlines, and heavy engineering lifts with enthusiasm and belief in what we’re building and why.
* Work side-by-side with the team’s Product Manager to define and execute against product needs and the technical roadmap, triage key technical priorities and establish good cadence for product lifts while balancing engineering bandwidth and resources.
* Initiate and facilitate blameless postmortems and reflection on projects after completion for ongoing improvement.
* Be an advocate for individual team members to grow, learn and develop and find opportunities to synchronize work and personal goals.
* Develop and execute a recruiting plan as needed for product priorities.
* Enforce key engineering standards to avoid accruing technical debt, ensure consistency in software development process, and track deliverable deadlines for the team.
* Stay up-to-date on relevant leadership decisions, relevant company policies, what's moving on other teams and identify conversations that need or don’t need the team's involvement.
* Help establish direct connections between team members with deep domain knowledge and individuals on other teams when appropriate.
