Back End Engineer

We are seeking highly motivated and hands-on Back End Engineers to develop Teralytic’s cloud platform. We operate across the software stack, working with our hardware and firmware engineers who design and build our sensors, to the application developers who build end user apps and APIs to help clients harness the data we produce to make profitable farming decisions. The software team integrates work across these disciplines and more.

The software team is responsible for running data collection, data analysis systems, and for serving data to our interfaces and products. Additionally, we support teams inside Teralytic, building tooling that ranges from flashing firmware in the field manufacturing and supply chain. We seek smart and motivated people who have a strong interest in environmental science and big data. You’ll collaborate with soil scientists, chemists, hardware engineers, and UX/UI designers in a fast-paced, purpose-driven atmosphere with flexible hours and competitive perks.

Responsibilities

• Work with a wide range of systems, processes and technologies to own and solve problems from end-to-end
• Build new features for internal and external users
• Uphold our high engineering standards and bring consistency to the many codebases and processes you will encounter
• Collaborate with stakeholders across the organization such as experts product, design, infrastructure, and operations

Required Skills and Experience

• Collaborate with engineers, data scientists, designers and product managers to build, maintain, and improve Teralytic’s data platform
• Architect scalable backend systems, services, and APIs
• Provide data engineering support to the data science team to productize their output
• Identify gaps in automation and workflows, and build tooling to address them
• Collaborate with senior leaders to chart a long-term vision for maintaining and scaling our systems
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in verbal and written interactions

• Experience with Cloud Infrastructures (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
• Experience with Big Data Architectures and Time Series Data
• Knowledge and/or experience with IoT sensors, remote sensor telemetry, serverless data processing a plus
• Agricultural background or experience in AgTech a plus

Education

• MS or PhD is desired; technical background with Computer Science, and/or Engineering/Math background is highly desired; working knowledge of software development practices
