Internship Program Qualifications:

  • Current student:

    • You must be currently enrolled in a university undergraduate or graduate degree program in the U.S with a graduation date of December 2024 or later
    • Able to intern from June 2024 through early September 2024 (12 weeks)
  • Authorization:

    • You must be legally authorized to work in the US during the Summer 2024 program
    • Visa sponsorship is not available for our internship positions, but we welcome applicants on a student visa (with authorization to work in the U.S.) to apply
  • Location:

    • Located within the San Francisco Bay Area or willing to relocate during the internship. Relocation assistance will be provided for students who will need to relocate for the summer.
    • Able to work 40 hours per week (full-time) in a hybrid work model with a minimum of 3 days in office for in person collaboration with our team

About the role:

This cybersecurity internship is designed to provide exposure to a variety of IT security tasks that one can expect as a junior or entry-level security engineer. This internship will offer you the opportunity to solve Sigma’s critical IT, security and data protection related challenges, along with hands-on experience on a variety of IT security tasks. You will be part of a growing team in cyber resilience, IT infrastructure, incident response, and technical implementation activities. As a generalist, you will have the opportunity to work in many facets of IT security. The ideal candidate will have a passion for technology and a desire to learn and grow in a fast-paced environment.

During your internship your responsibilities will include:

  • Participation in Cyber operations, conducting research, design and documentation associated with proper controls and remediation to protect information and systems
  • Assist in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of IT Saas systems and infrastructure.
  • Building automations for IT & Security related tasks and integrations.
  • Assist in maturing Cloud Identity Access Management (IAM), Cyber Incident Response/ remediation, Cyber threat detection and cloud data security.
  • Collaborate with the Security teams by scoping and delivering a capstone project in a specific research area.
  • Monitoring and triaging alerts/vulnerabilities from our Cloud security monitoring systems.
  • Assist in implementing an effective structure program for IT Cyber operations and reduce noise from alerts by creating high fidelity rules and automations.

What we’re looking for (in addition to program qualifications mentioned above):

  • Applicants must be pursuing a Bachelor’s or a Master’s degree in IT, Cyber Security, Cyber Assurance, Computer Science or a related field.
  • Introductory knowledge of IT & Security concepts: Malware Analysis, Web Firewall, Scripting/coding, SIEM, Vulnerability, SAML, Cloud IaaS (AWS, GCP or Azure), Phishing, Data loss Prevention, Network Security.
  • Familiar with security testing techniques such as vulnerability scanning, threat monitoring & hunting, configuration reviews, social engineering.
  • Strong understanding and passion for building IT Security Engineering and automations.
  • Have a drive and desire to navigate unknowns, after all, that’s what unlocks realizations
  • Ability to collaborate and work in a team environment.

The hourly compensation range for this role (located within San Francisco, CA) is $38-45 per hour.
