The Role

Together, we can give millions of people that suffer from depression, anxiety, and other psychiatric or neurological conditions new hope by building the next generation of TMS devices, bringing the treatment from the clinic into the home.

Join us on our mission to democratize access to the next generation of neuro-treatments.

What’s TMS

Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is a process by which certain parts of the brain either get stimulated or inhibited through use of electromagnetic pulses. The efficacy of this treatment has been proven for depression, migraines, and OCD (all FDA approved), and is virtually side-effect free. This is particularly exciting because the current default treatment, antidepressants or anti-anxiety medications, may fail at significantly reducing symptoms and often cause serious side effects.

TMS treatments, however, currently require daily visits to clinics for up to 6 weeks. We believe that the future of TMS is in home devices.

Who we’re looking for

We’re looking for a co-founder who drives the development of our medical device hardware. You should have a keen interest in Electrical Engineering with a focus on power engineering, and hands-on experience going from early prototypes to production-ready devices.

Traditional TMS devices rely on film capacitors and thyristors, and TMS pulses require high currents (>2000 A) and voltages (>800V) in order for the coils to induce sufficiently strong magnetic fields. There has been significant progress in multilevel converters that make use of SiC or GaN semiconductors, which can also allow for new treatment protocols with different pulse forms. We are building a strong network of scientific advisors that have experience in building TMS prototypes with these technologies, but ultimately it’s your call which technology is most feasible to build a compact and affordable home device.

In short, you should be familiar with:

  • Designing and prototyping production-level hardware, adhering to regulations and best practices
  • Supervising hardware manufacturing
  • Power engineering, particularly working with LC circuits and multilevel converters, with high power requirements
  • Embedded software programming

Of course, it doesn’t hurt if you are interested in building a great company 😀

Who we are

We’re Matti and Henning. Matti is a medical doctor who has left clinical practice to join Fimo Health as Head of Medical Affairs. Previously, he was on the founding team of YEARS, developing a platform to identify biomarkers that contribute to health prevention. Henning has longstanding experience in building and launching digital products. He was a founding member of German mobility startup PocketTaxi, and co-founder of an analytics startup called Atlas in San Francisco.

We both care deeply about mental health and can’t wait to get the right treatment into the hands of the people that are suffering.

No formal application required—just reach out to Henning at [email protected]
